Looking at random things to add and take away from my IG lists, my mind stopped on ratlings for a moment and I realized I haven't played them in a match since 6th edition.

On one hand, sniper rifles got nerfed a bit, but Ratlings' ability to infiltrate/outflank has made them more valuable in the maelstrom era. Furthermore, their ability to shoot and scarper means that they'll get off a salvo before running to cover when coming in from outflank. If cover is close enough, they can now move around the board a bit throughout the game due to that rule.

Also, with Astropaths now being Telepaths, some Ratlings can hang around the CCS and get shrouded, thus 2+ cover without going to ground.

Clearly they're still not a unit that is going to break open a game for you, but like my lone outflanking Sentinel with a lascannon who either manages heroics or dies in a futile heap, I think Ratlings could be a reasonably useful addition to a list in 7th.

What say you, Dakkites?

If you play maeltstorm small cheap units can provide you with infiltrating early scoring units. I would avoid purposely wasting any more points to buff them though as their only real advantages are infiltrate and being so cheap even the effort of shooting them is a waste.

How many Ratlings does it take to put a wound on a Wraithknight?

.66 hit, .5 wound, .33 failed saves. ~.11 wounds / shot, discounting Rending?

Tier 1 is the new Tactical.

Just played two games against CSM with 5 Ratlings. Each game the Ratlings took out an Obliterator and a half and put wounds on some other random stuff. So, they've been worth it so far!

I'd go with either a min squad or a squad of 5. Infiltrate/outflank on a point and g2g as soon as someone looks at them.
