Take a look at the rules here: http://www.blacklibrary.com/Downloads/Product/PDF/rules/Maleceptor-EN.pdf

Psychic Overload makes the target take a LD test on a 3D6. If the test is failed, non-vehicle models take D3 wounds with no armor or cover saves allowed.

Now psychic overload is a focussed witchfire power. The BRB says focussed witchfire means you CAN pick individual models of an enemy unit as your target. Focussed witchfire is a subtype of regular witchfire. Regular witchfire says you target the unit as a whole. Emphasis here on CAN. Which means you CAN also use a focussed witchpower power without picking a model, but the unit as a whole.

If you do it this way, psychic overload causes all models in the unit to take D3 wounds....thats D3 wounds per model.

Rules go on to say the Maleceptor can use this power three times each turn, but cannot target the same unit twice.

Where am I wrong? And isnt this awesome?

GW is scared of girls. Why do you think they have so much trouble sculpting attractive female models? Because girls have cooties and the staff at GW don't like looking at them for too long because it makes them feel funny in their naughty place.

No you can't choose the unit.

If you look closely at the rule, you already pick a target unit. In addition you can pick a model.

When it says choose a model, picking a unit instead isn't a valid option. It didn't say model or unit, after all.

Focussed Witchfires mean you can pick the model in a unit, sort of like precision shots if you will. If each model in the unit takes D3 wounds, it would specifically state "each model in that unit takes D3 wounds with no armour or cover saves allowed".

EDIT: I realise that's a debate for another thread, so edited out unnecessary stuff.

The BRB reads as follows:
"but you can choose the specific model in the target unit that you want the power to affect"
So you're still stuck with only 1 model.

If you fail to harness that extra dice required to "focus" the power, it merely resolves on the nearest model to the caster that is part of the targeted unit.
