Had quite a bit of fun with a massive KoW battle at our club's last meeting.
In order to make use of a 6x10 table, We met at FLGS instead of our usual meeting at a member's home.
I had the pleasure of allying my 2000 points of bad guys (Mostly using KoM and Abbysal Dwarves) allied to another member's 2000 points of Undead.  We faced off against 3 members playing the good guys. One fielding 2000 points of mostly nature, and two others each fielded 1000 points of dwarves.  As reflects our taste in models and collecting habits, the models represent a wide variety of miniatures with a dozen or more brands represented, unified mostly by theme, paint-scheme and basing.

You can read the whole report -as written by the undead player- with lots of nice pics, here on our blog:

Suffice to say, I had a great time. I only get to play KoW a few times a year, and I've lost almost every time, and yet it's one of my favorite games.  Obviously there's lots of depth I haven't explored yet, but the rules are streamlined and easy enough to learn that I never feel like I'm struggling with them when I do get a game in. This game also had two first-timer KoW players who each controlled 1000 points of Dwarves and they seemed to grasp the rules as good (in some cases better) than I did.  Not a victory for me, but definitely another win for the KoW rules!

A few pics to tempt you to view the full report which has many more!

Looks amazing- great to see so many painted troops on the table.

How long was the game in total?

Thanks!
It's actually a club standard that we never field unpainted minis. It works pretty well because we usually have enough painted forces to lend to newbies. One of the 1000 point Dwarf players was a guest who was using the Undead player's Dwarf force.

I think the game was around 2.5 hours. We played to 5 turns intead of 6. There was a small learning curve for the two first timers and the places where one player was engaging 2 different players also caused a few small slow-ups. I think with a few games under our belt we could easily finish all 6 turns of a game this size in around 2 hours.

Here be dragons!

Thanks for sharing, man. It looks like a great game, though it'll be a while till I can push my games to 4000 points per side.

Good to see those Warjacks in action as well

Thanks, I'll be doing a separate blog post about them as soon as I finish drybrushing the basing and blacking the edges. The Reaper models for "Lesser Obsidian Golems" are actually pretty cool, but I think Warjacks are even better.

That game was a monster! Twice the size of the biggest game of KoW that I have ever played*.

Looks like everyone had fun. Nice to see some oddball units in the mix - the frost giant fighting with the dwarfs, and the mighty, mighty Nethyrmaul.

And miniatures from all over the place!

And a 6' wide table is going to be a real slog for the solid but slow dwarfs!

The Auld Grump

*That one was fun - my girlfriend and I had agreed to the tactics of our combined dwarven forces before the game began. We played the entire game without discussing tactics even once, and rolled the elves off of the table. She took The Anvil while I played The Hammer. (Effectively two 1,500 point dwarf armies working together.)

*EDIT* Looked at the lists - the largest game that I have been in was 6,000 - 3,000 on each side.

The reason I bought rules and became a real wargamer was because I wanted a properly thought out structure to govern the action instead of just making things up as I went along.

Glad you enjoyed it!

The armies are a pretty good reflection of the collecting habits of our members. That is, diverse and unfettered by any game companies idea of what miniatures we should use for our games.
