I've been playing infinity for a few mos now but my friend is visiting this afternoon & wants to learn. I am considering running him thru icestorm front to back but wasn't sure how long that would take or if, as a veteran gamer who's new to infinity I should start him elsewhere?

The first four scenarios are kill 'em all so that could take a while. I'd plan on running the first three for your friend, and budget 2-2.5 hours for it. You may want a replay or two for those first two scenarios as well. Scenarios 4 and 5 can be played if you guys have time, and scenario five actually plays like a regular scenario too.

Playing Icestorm with him would be a fine place to start with someone new to the game-- it was designed for that.

Remember to let him 'win' a few times

I played through mission 1 and 2 with my friend the other day. I didn't really enjoy the terrain set-up for mission 1. I don't know if they did it on purpose to force you up onto the buildings, but ground level is just two big choke points that can't be traversed. The Hi didn't really change the game much either. I think if I was doing it again, I would just explain f2f in a 1 vs 1 example situation (let them be a Hi versus one of the mooks), then jump straight in to mission 3 where is gets a bit more interesting. I'd also print out some simple cheat sheets if you can with unit stats and maybe a list of the skills.

We played the first mission (I let him win lol) & then he had to go. My fiancee & I then played the last mission. I was... dumbfounded to see a CC of 23 on the father knight.it's like Nigel Powers in Goldmember "just do yourself a favor & fall down".

I'm really curious how cc is changing in N3 for a 23. Kinda like the BTS of the interventors being a high & positive number.

CC numbers above 20 just raise your crit chances (so instead of just a 5% chance to crit, you can go as high as a 40% easily - A domaru with berserk - for example - hits on any dice roll and crits on a 13+. He won't miss.)

With the Assault skill as well, it means that the units that specialise in cc can get there and start chopping.

ORIGINALLY, BTS was ONLY a modifier for hacking.
Then they brought in viral ammo, and treated it as armour v viral damage, so it got treated as a positive.

That's N2.

In N3 you crit on any roll of a 20+ and add the amount of attribute over 20 to the roll. So the crit chance is identical but the Father-Knight can't roll lower than 4...

I'll take your word for it when I SEE N3 for myself.

Until then, it's all just vaporware to me.

Half and half icestorm and n2 is not a satisfactory mix for me - icestorm leaves so much out, and there's differing reports of what is what in N3, so I'll wait until I see it in red and white for myself.

And given the shipping date, I doubt I'll see it much before xmas. Hitting publishing dates was the one thing CB isn't good at.
