This is the Colonel for my Imperial regiment, hailing from a Desert World named Charys.

His backstory:
Suleyman Al-Khalid is the commanding officer of all Imperial forces stationed on Charys. Originally hailing from a desert tribe, born as the son of the tribe's warlord, he was responsible for numerous successful raids against Imperial outposts. When his father started worshipping the Ruinous Powers, he surrendered to the Planetary Governor himself (whose office he had effortlessly broken in to) and offered his service to the Imperium, if they helped him save his brothers from the taint of Chaos. During the final battle between the tribe and the PDF, Al-Khalid challenged his own father to a duel, the winner of which would decide the fate of the tribe. The duel lasted for three hours, and ended with Al-Khalid chopping of his father's hands and cutting out his tongue, sending him in exile into the desert. After the battle, Al-Khalid joined the Imperial forces and became a prominent officer, eventually becoming Colonel.

Some of you might recognize this model as that of Saxon Orrik, from the Hordes wargame by Privateer Press. I went for a 'desert-camouflage' look, as I wanted him to fit in with the rest of my forces (and with the fluff I made for them). I couldn't find a suitable replacement for his weapon, so I left it the way it was (hopefully you can forgive me for that )

This was my first attempt at using washes, I'm not sure if I completely understand how they work yet, but I guess I'll figure that out with more practice

Let me know what you think and enjoy!

A comparison with an Imperial Guardsman, who has the colour scheme I think I'm gonna use for any other Imperial forces I paint in the future.

For someone who claims to not know what they're doing with washes you seem to be doing pretty well.
Nice model, and great fluff for him
And great painting really evocative and really suits the sculpt

I agree with IGtR, you're off to a great start with washes. I also really like that miniature, and as for the gun, it looks like a suitable family heirloom relic.

I'm really considering getting him & a set of the desert trooper heads from puppetswar & doing an ash wastes militia/necromunda gang using a bitz box attack method lol. With him as the leader.

Nice! I like the model, maybe I'll get one myself to use in necromunda ash wastes.

I like the wahy his cloak turned out.

Maybe some more highlights on the brown armour might make it pop more?

Thanks for the kind words everyone

I'm still experimenting with the washes, mostly trying to get the look right for smaller cloaks and mantles (as I'm going to equip some of my Space Marines with those to give them more of a 'desert' feel), there's still much to learn I'm afraid

Please do! I'd love to see a more desert-oriented gang, I think there's some real conversion joy to be found in making them (for some reason, the image of a heavy stubber mounted on a camel appeals to me more than it should)

The model is pretty damn cool I must say, I definitely recommend it
Highlights are something I have trouble with, I think I just don't really get how they're supposed to work yet, but I'll try to work on those once I've found a good tutorial on them
