Subject: Should I add a glaze

Hey guys, I am pretty new to painting my models so thought I would ask for some advice. Would this model benefit from one of the citadel glazes? I have a way watcher green but unsure whether to add it. Also I have never varnished before, is it a good idea to varnish before I start picking out the details?

I'd just work some directed washes of thin brown / dark red, dark blue, dark purple here and there to give it a bit more contrast and interesting colour variation. Then pick out edges again where needed.

Sounds like a plan I need to start making it pop a little

Considering the varnish - I got into the habbit of varnishing my models as kind of a savepoint.
I usually do the base colour and shading of it with an airbrush - which is basically impossible to fix when you screw up.
So I do this, then apply a varnish - if I feth up, I can just wipe away the paint with a moist cotton bud and start over. You can rub pretty vigurously to get even dry paint of without damaging the model.
Then I do it again after I completed base coating - for the same reason.

That sounds exactly what I need, I only got my airbrush last month so still learning the rope but as you stated I have noticed that any errors further down the line are very hard if not impossible to sort out.
Would you recommend the Vallejo airbrush varnish?

For a gloss get some Klear. It's not so hot for dipping canopies these days, but it's still a great glosscoat and it's quite tough (being a floor polish).
Spray it neat, at a reasonably low pressure, lots of thin coats to build it up.
Everyone with an airbrush should read this page:

For flat coats, I just use windsor & newton galleria satin, cut with a bit of vallejo airbrush thinner.

Or, if you can't get a hold of that stuff (I can't even with this in depth article) - vallejo varnishes can be put through a airbrush just fine and are low-hazzle.
I have all 3 variants (gloss, satin and matt) and am not looking elsewhere.
