It would be incredible if while looking at Blogs forum, a preview pic of the latest author pic post (not just any forum post).
This would have many benefits;
It would encourage traffic to blogs that people may otherwise pass over if the title doesn't interest them.
It would make scanning for new update and new blogs easier
It would engage more visual senses when browsing, thus updating the interface of the forums.

It has been on the to-do list for about 3 years now, but will get done at some point because as you say, it is a very good idea!

I figured people smarter than I had figured it out and it was probably an issue of manpower.
