It just seems strange to me that a Nob from a squad of Nobz costs more than a Nob in a boyz unit. Can anyone explain the logic behind this?

It may have to do with the fact that the Boss Nob plays a different role to that of normal nobz in nobz squads, as they act as bosspole-caddies and the only source of reliable anti-armour for mobz of boyz thanks to their access to the PK. Also unlike normal Nobz, who have access to this and more, they can be challenged out of using the PK.

Besides that, it's more probable that it is simply out of tradition since most unit leader upgrades across codices are around 10 points, even if it doesn't make sense that it would cost so much (e.g. 10 point upgrade for Tau Sha'sui for only 1 extra attack and Ld, similarly for SM Veteran Sergeants).

What costs more?

One nob in a normal boyz squad isn't as effective as a whole squad of the gitz.

They thought that 16 pts nobz would be overpowered. For some reason.

Well, imagine this: a Space Marine veteran sergeant costs 24 points. Would you pay that much for a squad of dudes at that price with those stats? Unless they had something special like the access similarly statted Sternguard and Vanguard veterans have, you wouldn't. It's because that Nob raises the leadership of the squad and has other wargear benefits a regular Boy doesn't have.

Actually he's a two wound beatstick (no raised LD) but I understand your meaning.

Honestly, I won't complain that the Boy Nob is cheaper. He serves a great purpose and his cost is highly justified. Though his statline is the same as regular Nobz, in the fluff, the Boyz Nob is often made fun of as well. So he gets to cost less because he is a lesser Nob :p

Ironic considering how little the other Nobz see play! (Except in my case...I have a heart for the gits and play them even if they are dead points often times). Though they can make great ambush units from time to time.

This. Same reason that Tac squad equivalents usually get a cheaper Heavy weapon than dedicated Heavy weapon squads. One big gun isn't as effective as four of them. and you're using the rest of the squad as ablative wounds if all you do is snipe with the single Lascannon.
