I presume it involves a lot of Tanks and some bubble wrap infantry.

Hardened Veteran Guardsman

The tournaments i go to aren't super compeitive (only bound, 1 knight only, ect), but I came in 2nd with something like this:

Command squad
Punisher pask
2x platoons, each has 2 infantry squads, autocannons, and command
Vendetta
2x LRBT (seperate squad)
2x basilisks (same squad)
Aegis

I only have trouble with heavy mech lists. I fight a lot of nids and orks so its a lot of hordes

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

I've done pretty well in the past with a combined arms approach. I can't remember the lost off the top of my head but it was something like this.

CCS w/mortar, MoO, Fleet officer, Chimera
Pask w/Punisher
LRBT
Primaris
Veterans w/plasma
PCSw/mortar
2xinfantry squad, plasma/AC
Valk w/MRP
2x Scout Sentinels w/ AC and camo netting.
Knight (The one with dual battlecannon)

It was similar to that, but what I enjoyed about this list was that I was all over the table with it. I had a strong static force to hold any objectives on my side of the map, I had plasma vets in the Valkyrie to deploy quickly across the map with a lot of firepower, I had the Knight to run down my opponent's throat, Pask is annoying to pretty much everything, and I had Sentinels to outflank behind my opponent. It gives me a lot of versatility, and mobility to take advantage of my enemy.

With this list I was able to destroy a Tau battlesuit list with 2 riptides and Farsight in it (the night stomped a full health riptide on the first turn of combat), and I defeated another IG list with a baneblade, Corteaz, and Yarrick with only losing a single infantry soldier and one sentinel.

Right now I'm running a Steel Host list with 12 Russ' and the Hydra. Simply amazing list.

LRBT are probably the weakest of the leman rus (tied with the vanquisher for most sucky) due to having to snap fire all its weapons. A single S8 AP 3 blast doesn't really compare to a demolisher or eradicator (which can actually fire it's bolters normally).

So for HQ I think you are looking at pask in punisher + 1 or 2 demolishers or eradicators.

I love putting pcs with 4 flamers into vendettas, very cheap and pretty good.

Knight is a good addition. Far better than a bane blade (and cheaper). If you want a superheavy battle tank, take the one with the S10 AP 2 ignores cover cannon (the only one they banned from BAO

I'm also a big fan of power axe and meltabomb blobs (with priest)
