I did a quick review on TWG.

Anyone else tried this out yet? It's only in early access but it looks very good.

I'm waiting for the Sisters of Sigmar update, but it's definitely on my list.

I was positively surprised by the gameplay video on Steam; given the recent releases in GW licensed games, I really didn't expect something as polished as this. The last thing we had that even comes close in terms of quality was probably THQ*s Space Marine. Also, it doesn't just look pretty and aims to offer a similar level of warband customisation as the original TT skirmish game, the mechanics also seem to be really cool in that it sort of mixes third person action with turn-based combat.

My only complaint: it's not Necromunda!

My friend loves it, I like what I have seen and it will only get better from here. I cant wait to get it personally.

Wondering if i should get this. It's currently on sale so i dunno if i should get it. For some reason i'm more interested in single-player.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I was thinking about getting this, but my fingers are still sore from being burnt by Space Hulk..

Although, I believe this game is being done by the team that did Blood Bowl(?) which gives me more hope.

Very keen to read the comments of anyone who has gone for the early access!

A future update will supposedly add a single-player campaign, if that is of any help. And of course you can always play against the AI in skirmish mode, too.

Also, it's got Skaven.

Judging from the Steam page, the first version that is out right now does not offer much in terms of content (2 factions, 1 game mode), but the actual combat mechanics are all there. If they really do add everything that is planned as updates, it could make for a very well-rounded game. I'm especially looking forward to warband customisation.

I've been watching some videos of this game on youtube. So far i saw one game with skaven and about 1/3 of a game with empire.

----------

Edit:

Ok so i've played the game and most of it is ok. So far i've had a game where my rat ogre got stuff on terrain while it was charging in to ambush somebody resulting in me needing to restart the game.

I've realized that whatever videos i've seen of people playing this game in the past must've been noobs. You can switch out weapons easily and skaven usually have warplock pistols on most of their elites (including the leader, eshin sorceror and the nightrunner dudes). Most skaven basic guys (verminkin) have just a couple weapon sets and no abilities of any kind so they're fodder mostly. I tend to use them to hold down the enemy and then shoot them to death. Very skaven in nature if you like skaven. The random rolls can be rather ridiculous sometimes. You'll sometimes fail high percentage chances for success like when climbing a feature and succeed with low percentage ones.

Basically the setup is 'left-alt'=view map, 'left-tab'=view objectives, 'left-shift'=view stats of current warrior including alterate unequipped weapons, 'space bar'=show all abilities you can do which you can left click to go to each action and and right click to go to each sub-action. It might take a little time to figure it out but not too much. Also you just use the 'w' and 's' buttons to go up or down on abilities. The abilties could be much harder than they are too. Going through 'space bar' is so helpful because it tells you what each ability does.

Dodge and parry are basically the same thing in a sense but you get a higher percentage for one over the other so you should choose the higher percentage one i figure. They didn't elaborate on the difference so i'm guessing there isn't one. Generally more heavily armored troops have a better parry chance whereas troops without armor esp. skaven tend to have better dodge chances (some of which reach into the 80 something percent dodge chance which is rather good).

Some things aren't in the game yet like for instance doing prayers near your team's cart and being able to loot the opponent's cart, looting recently fallen out of action enemy characters and other such junk. It's a shame that's not in yet as gear would be awesome as well as the prayers abilities. I just want to see leveling up and the ability to loot gear and get gear.

There are about 4 maps total so far and several different game modes on each map. Each one should have a specific map only game start like skaven coming from the tunnels and the empire coming via the ships with the skaven ambushing them. There are also day and night modes for each of the maps though i'm not sure if there are any effects to them yet other than purely aesthetic but maybe in the full game there will be.

There are some other details like 'all alone' checks and other such junk but i should let you guys figure the rest of it out.

Anyway if there's anything else you want to know just ask. I think there are different types of damage as well and different enemies take it much worse. I'm guessing there are equivalents for each faction that take some types of damage worse. Also just so you know if you can't do an ability then it won't be shown in the base abilities that you can use 'Q' and 'E' to switch from.

The game also gives you about 5 hours worth of play time as it currently stands maybe less. CPU opponents are weaker than normal and generally suck with no difficulty settings. If you want a good game try online. That said it might take longer to play the match.

Sounds pretty solid, in spite of that nasty stuck bug. I like how the factions seem to have different modes of arrival shown, from how you describe it. Not something you'd expect from a game like this.

Are the maps really randomised, or was that something they intend to patch in later?

I'm not sure. I saw that video too and i don't remember anything being different. Then again i only played probably 2 of the maps and only twice or so. So yeah if i didn't realize anything new forgive me. Also there seems to be some areas you can climb up but it glitches so you can't.

My computer also has a little trouble playing the game even on fastest setting. Luckily it's not a shooter so i don't have to worry about a low framerate to screw over my gaming experience. Oh and there is a height advantage for shooting as well as rubble blocking shooting's hit chance. Also it's like back in the older days of warhammer fantasy where shooting at a large target was much easier than a small one.

Early access went live today I think via Steam.
Anyone got more into this, Im kinda intrigued but most likely wont pick it up until full release.

Does it play sort of like Xcom but its online with teams of human players?

Just watch one of the gameplay videos - looks everything an adaptation of the Mordheim should be. Hope it goes to consoles as I'm not getting a new PC just for this.
