Hey everyone, I just got my butt handed to me yesterday by a Black Templar player who fielded nothing but Terminators. The units normally had 3 LC, and 3 TH and SS. One of these units was in a LRC. In addition he had a dreadnought, a unit of centurions in a drop pod, and one of the units of LC and TH/SS termies and the nought were in a Storm Raven. The last unit was a unit of typical terminators. I play Necrons, and a fairly competitive list (without spam, see below), but in all but the typical termies he brought a priest that upon passing a leadership test let him re roll all of his failed armor and invul saves in combat. Terminators are pretty tough for me to beat as is, but this made it really tough.

My list:
+++ Necrons 2000 (1995pts) +++

++ Necrons: Codex (2011) (Combined Arms Detachment) (1995pts) ++

In the beginning I was able control a lot of the board, getting far ahead in tactical objectives, but once I was in combat i was stuck there the whole game, unable to shoot them either. So, I'm thinking I should drop some of the close combat for a more shooty army, in order to avoid the re rollable saves. So, I've put together this:

+++ New Roster (1998pts) +++

++ Necrons: Codex (2011) (Combined Arms Detachment) (1998pts) ++

+ HQ (410pts) +

Necron Overlord (410pts) [Mindshackle Scarabs, Phase Shifter, Resurrection Orb, Sempiternal Weave, Tachyon Arrow, Upgrade to Phaeron, Warscythe

So I've taken the focus away from combat and poured my points into shooting. The despairteks getting in the NS with the Death marks, a Destrotek with the 2 warrior blobs and the storm the with the unit of 5 Warriors in the NS. Now correct me if I'm wrong about where I can place members of the court if more than on member in one unit, I don't think I can. I may also shuffle a warrior from the GA to the NS to allow them to embark with the destrotek. What do you guys think?

I want that Priest he has! I don't know what priest does that though.

But from experience, termies go down to lots and lots of fire. Think volume over power for them. So your court and deathmarks are largely not going to do much. The little spider swarms may take down the dread and the LRC though. But other than that just field 100 warriors.

But seriously, what priest lets you reroll all armor and invuln saves after passing a LD test?

I need that. And it's very Black Templar in nature.

It's pretty competitive though not too terribly fun to play against.

Well it looks like that rerollable save only works in close combat. So as long as you are shooting at them you should be good. Lots of flyers may be another option.
You will just have to worry about the Stormraven at that point.

And yea you definitely do not want to get in close combat with the Termies. Unless its just a big, inexpensive blob that can tie them up for a few rounds while you get objectives.

I'd normally advise Wraiths against termies but since he's using War Hymns to buff them you're better off shooting him. Annihilation barges are where it's at, plain old night scythes will do fine too. Weight of fire is your friend in this particular case.

At least he isn't running blood angels and sticking Sanguinary priests with the termies. Then they would get FNP during the shooting phase AND in close combat.
