Hey everyone, this might be a silly question but I really could use some help.

So, I bought this extremely beautiful miniature from Brother Vinni that's 28mm. Not heroic 28mm, just 28mm

Spoiler:

The problem is that for the conversion I plan to do, I don't want the mechanical arm. I have been searching for an alternative arm that could match her outfit and replace it but:

- Commissars have a long coat and the sleeve should be nice but GW's are heroic 28mm.

- Pretty much all arms I have seen are holding some kind of weapon or are in a position that'd look strange with her position. I don't want her holding any other weapon, maybe only a scabbard,

Maybe if I find an arm that fits I could saw the hand off (if it's holding a weapon) and replace it with another, but I'm not sure it'd be smart since, ya know, she's tiny.

Anyone knows a miniature I can mutilate for an arm?

Maybe an arm of an Infinity female?

Have you looked through the rest of Brother Vinni's female miniatures?

Thanks for the help!

Infinity: IIRC, there's only one or two guys with anything that looks like the navy jacket she's wearing and they don't quite fit. The universes are really that different.

Rest of BV miniature's: They fall into the problems I mentioned above. Brother Vinni has a commissar that "could" fit, but he's holding a weapon and it's a man, I'm not sure if the arm would look funny on her (Brother Vinni really seems to know how to create good proportioned women and men) and the Female Sergeant is also holding a weapon so if all else fails, maybe I could chop it off and replace with another hand.

What about using green stuff to fill in the robot arm and sculpt it to look like a jacket sleeve. That would just leave the hand but you could say it is a gauntlet of some sort.

The mechanical elbow is huge and I really wanted a human hand but I won't deny it's not an option. I just have 0 skills with green stuff so I worry what the clothing would look like. Hell, I'm nervous enough I have to use green stuff to make her hair longer because I have no idea how to make it natural, nevermind a piece of clothing

I'll probably do another mini search later on to see if I can find more solutions.

I would use an Exacto knife or vile to scrape / vile of the excessive arm bits of then use vaseline to lubricate your fingers and then make the greenstuff (this makes the greenstuff way better to handle and way less sticky to your fingers). Then sculpt the sleeves by applying small bits of greenstuff to the arm and using sculpting tools to smoothen / spread it out and to push in place. Then use the tools to push in the folds of the sleeves. You can keep working it around for like a hour which would give you plenty of time to keep reworking until your arm looks the way you want it to be...

If you're scared to f**k things up just practice on a test arm or armature to see if you could mold the greenstuff in to something that resembles a sleeve.

I would make a flat piece of greenstuff and use an old knife to cut out a small rectangle shaped flat piece to wrap around the arm to form the sleeve (making sure the open ends are on the inside of the arm.) Then smoothen out the seem and ends with a sculpting tool and use a bit of vaseline to ease up the smoothing proces. (you could also use you fingers but I found that sculpting tools are way easier).

Then use a round long object like the backside of a old brush (coated with some vaseline) to press in the folds at the elbow. I think you will be surprised what you can do this way...

good thing is.. If you dislike what you see... you could always remove the greenstuff before it has set to either start over or leave it as is to try finding a different arm.

Good luck and really like to know what your end result will be..

Have you thought about an Eldar or Dark Eldar arm?
I used an Eldar arm for this chap:

After GS:

Yay! Suggestions!

@Remco_Tuerlings - Thank you very much for the short and sweet tutorial. Like you said, the worst is the "Oh gak, what if I f*** this up" feeling. Hell, I bought 2 just in case - Again, I'm really trying to avoid GS but hell, if I feel this is the only option, so be it

@Red_Starrise: Of course! I completely forgot about that miniature range. I have to check it out!

@bubber: I have some dark eldar kabalite warrior and succubus bits and I tried an arm. The forearm alone is almost the same size as her right arm

I think these would be of a scale, I can personally attest to the quality of the casts. I'll be kinda sad if you do go this route though, because you'll be maiming something so beautiful haha. I have some models if you want me to set up a scale shot for you.
