Here's a Kickstarter that may be of interest to some.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1682672801/nova-aetas-dark-renaissance-tactical-game

The buy-in for miniatures is a bit steep for me, so I won't be pledging. But the game itself feels like it draws upon the 'self DM' style ensconced in Kingdom Death: Monster.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

Damn, I do love me some Renaissance Italy...but I dislike getting models I can't use in multiple games, and these look to be 35mm and proportioned heroically in the classical sense(ie, 8 heads tall, rather than grotesquely deformed with bobbleheads and ham joints for hands). I didn't think the buy-in was too bad at first, I assumed it would cover shipping, then you find out they want another $20-30 on top to cover that, and the $15 is just the door cost to get in to their "marketplace" - yeah, no. Looks like another company that would rather pass on additional business than sully their creation by having plebs use their models in non-boutique games.

It's a real shame as well, they'd make an absolutely stunning Tilean warband for Mordheim.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

The size comparison isn't bad. I may look at picking up a few mini's from this

Have they said what material the miniatures will be made from?

They also said they're shooting for preassembled board game style pieces.

Hard to say what the results will be like this early on.

Looks interesting, to say the least. I'll check it out when I'm a bit more coherent and not scrounging the net for black friday deals.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Sadly I don't think that will be enough to see me saying in on this one.

I've been burned too many times by PVC/restic Kickstarters.

Canceled!

Creator Ludus Magnus Studio LLC about 3 hours ago

Hi backers,
we apologize with you about our absence in this last days, we were working both on game-play video and the translation of beta rules. We realized that we had no time to make a good job.
The campaign is not going on as we/you had wished. We know you are waiting for rules, and that you'll not agree about our decision to close this campaign. It was a very hard decision for us, but we want to give you the best with Nova Aetas. We know that you want the same, so we ask you to understand us and to follow us until we'll reboot an all new Nova Aetas KS campaign.
We are here for any question, thanks again.

Yeah I saw that. Maybe they will be willing to switch to resin in the next campaign.

I hope so - if it stays "PVC" I don't think I'll be back...

Hi everyone,
after careful thought and days of hard work to try to bring our/your campaign to success, we realized that at present our project will fail to reach the minimum to be founded. So we decided to close this campaign and start a process of reorganization to relaunch Nova Aetas later.

We know we made some errors, we worked to correct them and to continue this campaign; which had a good start but then entered a stalemate which was very difficult to get out. Also some technical problems prevented us to show immediately the rules and also the game-play video.

We paied lot of attention to your feedbacks and we understand that we was unable to satisfy your requests as we wanted.

We strongly trust in this project, for this reason was hard to decide to interrupt this campaign. Our intent is to offer a comprehensive and innovative game, the universe of Nova Aetas grows every day, to bring the project to the goal we need a crowdfunding campaign planned more efficiently.

We have the beta rules (english version) almost ready and we are working on the game-play video (we have two demo but them didn't satisfy us). We apologize to do not publish this material on our KS home page, you can found them on our website (asap).

LMS wants to say "THANKS, THANKS AND AGAIN THANKS" to all backers who supported us with their encouragements, advices and constructive criticism. We are happy about the relationship that has grown between us and you, and we do not want to interrupt it.

We'll continue to use this page to communicate with you and, of course, we invite you on our FB page and on our official website:

This is an interesting example of how "early bird" Kickstarter pledges can really hurt a product. Seems that many of the complaints were from there. Hopefully they'll be more fair with the pledge levels next time rather than grabbing for an ephemeral initial flux of pledges.

Additionally, the communication and the lack of gameplay explanations were problematic. Seems that the company has acknowledged this.

Regardless, it doesn't seem like anyone but miniatures gamers care about the PVC models. This is a board game, not a miniatures game. Some mysterious guy named "Alpharius" seems to be the only one talking about the materials of the models.

Yeah... PVC was definitely part of the reason I didn't jump in... it'd take a really impressive project to convince me to get into the material again, these days.

The big thing is the PVC has a reputation for being terrible for details. Even if you just want to play it as a board game, would figures that require vast amounts of cleanup and lack detail be acceptable? There is an entire thread for this http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/599178.page It's to much of a 50/50 chance you get models that are not up to snuff.

I understand and totally agree about the PVC. I was a Sedition Wars backer, and even paid for some of the Phase 2 stuff.

Point is, though, it seems that this Kickstarter was more focused on being a board game with nice miniatures rather than a proper miniatures game. Most of the comments from backers sem to be discussing the rules with Alpharius pretty much alone in the comments about the material.

With the cancellation, the company will likely focus on communication of the ruleset and communication overall rather than revamp their materials, which is a pity.

Agreed!

They seem to be somewhat aware of the potential 'issue' as I think they were offering some resins?

The time off helps me out - as I likely wasn't staying in due to material, and likely won't be backing later...due to material.
