For the longest time I have played only space marines and have been more or less happy with it, different editions and different metas have left them all behind more or less happy. But now I play 40k less then I used to and I am getting tired of painting marines, the other day I painted some fantasy for a friend and it was such a blast! So fun and colorful in comparison to painting another marine, so now I am thinking of jumping ship into another army, something colorful, interesting to build, paint and play! What do you guys think?
I am thinking either Dark Eldar, vastly different models, cool and colorful paint jobs and some interesting armies lists and play styles. Orks was another thing I was thinking about, I like painting none green orks, blue red or whatever and I love the dakka jets. The last army I was thinking about was Daemons as they can painted as whatever you would like!
So guys, what army do you think is the funniest to paint? The most diverse to play? Any other armies that might fit these guide lines? Let me know!

If you have the skills, Eldar might be your taste.
Lots more details, I've only ever painted half of one, and he's just legs sticking out under Venerable Ajax's (one of my dreadnought s) right foot.
What's left of that poor striking scorpion was not fun for me as my painting kung-fu is rather weak.
If the fun is in the challenge, I say go for it. Or wait for other recommendations too heh.

I would also say go for Eldar, ifyou do i recommend the very aesthetically pleasing craftworld Biel -tan. Also take lots of aspect squads such as striking scorpions or fire dragons, very colourful and detailed models and are competent in games too

Dark Eldar are fun to play but a bear to paint. Orks and Eldar both offer lots of variety in fantastical paint jobs, while IG have lots of good realistic paint jobs. Tau can be a good blend of both.

Someone above mentioned Biel-Tan Eldar. I'm going to agree here. The Aspect Warriors will give you plenty of variety, and if you look into the lore you can even have different Aspect Temples, basically squads on the table, painted with more variation of the same theme. But things like jetbikes and grav-tanks, a collection of Biel-Tan was recently on ebay, each one with a hand painted set of thorny vines on the smooth hoods and wings. Another Eldar army was all painted as dragons. Some bikes had scale patterns, others had flame patterns, Wave Serpents had leathery wing patterns painted on the bow curves. Very beautiful. There is plenty of canvas to work with on a lot of Eldar models.

Interesting ideas with the Biel-Tan eldar, I do like white and green though I will most likely come up with my own color scheme.
I normally like Dark Eldar more then normal Eldar, just cause you know spikes, but Eldar could be fun to paint and yes I do like difficulty. I am staying away from IG as I want to paint things less boxy and realistic, turns out I like the crazy stuff

Eldar are fantastic if you want to learn airbrushing, especially their vehicles, thought guardians (and some other aspect warriors) can largely be done by airbrush too.
