Somebody told me there's a mechanicum land raider in one of the FW books(or maybe elsewhere) that makes all shooting attacks -1S when shooting at the land raider and also negates the melta USR. Anybody know which book it is in?

Pretty sure that is it but it's Horus Heresy stuff so not always going to be usable 40k games.

I saw that one already but it only has armor 13/12/11, so I don't think that's it.

That's the Land Raider Achilles. It's in IA2. Also immune to the effects of Lance weapons.

Does the Achilles get the -1 STR shield though? I thought that was a 30k upgrade,

It gets -1 modifier on the Vehicle Damage table other than D Weapons.

It looks like the Achilles is -1 on the dmg table, not -1S.

Also the land raider I was told about is only 255 points, if that helps.

The mechanium Land Raider is part of the Mechanium list in the Horus Heresy book.

The upgrades you are talking about are ceramite armor (Melta USR immunity) and the flare shield (-1S from attack to the front, -2S from blasts weapons). Neither upgrade is particularly cheap though, and isn't really enough to make a Land Raider "good". With the flare shield and armored ceramite it costs 240 points...but only has a heavy bolter and 2 lascannon, not twinlinked versions.

Ceramite armor and flare shields are also available to the Spartan, and ceramite is available to most legion vehicles.

The LR achilles is from IA2: Second Edition and has ignore melta USR, but no flare shield. But it does have -1 to the roll on the damage chart

Spot on. As an aside, there's actually 3 Mechanicum Army Lists:

- Ordo Reductor List in HH Book 1: Betrayal
- Legio Cybernetica List is in HH Book 2: Massacre
- Tagmahta Omnissia List is in HH Book 3: Extermination

As mentioned, the Mechanicum Land Raider is part of the Ordo Reductor list. I haven't got my book to Hand, but the I think the Tagmahta list can take the Land Raider as well. Although it might be pretty wicked to run a Land Raider Proteus in Mechanicum Livery, you'd be better off taking a Triarios transport and adding in a Krios variant. Getting those 2 are only just slightly more in points as the Land Raider anyway.

I haven't had a chance to look at all of the mechanicum stuff but you might be thinking of the Land Raider Spartan from FW. The spartan can be upgraded with a flare shield which makes the str of incoming shots with the template or blacst -2 and all other shooting -1 str but only against the vehicles front arc. The flare shield has no effect against CC or D weapons.

It can also be upgraded to have ceramite plating which negates the melta double pen rule.

you are looking at a total cost of 340 for 2 TL quad lascannons and an assault vehicle that can transport 25 models with 5 HP.
