Apart from the £4.50 price difference is there any reason to get an Assault Squad over the Veteran Vanguard Squad which seems superior in every way?
Also is there any news about the assault squad box getting updated?
I ask because I'm interested in starting a blood angels army and probably gonna need some assault squads.

Price is the only reason, really, as the VV are newer, sharp minis while the Assault Marines are a fairly old kit that needs updating. I was hoping for an update with the new BA release, but t'was not to be.
However, instead of buying just VV, I suggest mixing in parts from the Death Company kit for BA Assault Squads; not only are they cheaper, but they still have all the parts needed to count as an Assault Squad, but plenty of BA iconography as well.

Even looking at the new ba tac squad you could use that to mix with an assault squad to make em more blood angely. Personally I did as paradigm suggested mixing death company bits with regular assault marines as well my tacticals to give em a more ba look. The dc kit comes with so many extra goodies its hard not to have some super blinged blood angels.

Those of us that like clean, unadorned (some might say boring) armor instead of stupid laurels and the Crux Terminatus. Bitz sellers for guns means I'd do pretty well for myself with a normal Assault Squad pack.

It's extra work to get the Crux Terminatus off of the guys but if you can get it for a discount I'd heartily recommend getting the VV kit. It's schweet.

Mixing the new Blood Angels Tactical Squad box with the Vanguard Veterans will yield a pretty awesome Blood Angels Assault Squad.

Vanguard kit has tons of extra weapons, axes, swords, sheilds and claws etc.
Plus extra ornate regular weaponry.
One kit could upgrade seargents with what's left over very easily. If

While I’ll join others in the praise of the VV kit, the AM kit does have one perk: It also includes 5 torsos without jump harnesses and 5 normal backpacks. While not a huge deal, as those things tend to gather spares in bits boxes, if you are planning on razorspamming or drop podding, you might give a second thought to the humble AM kit.
And then buy the VV kit anyway, and a few spare bodies off e-bay.
