Would it be too weird to have a section of the board dedicated to reviewing products? I know there are lots of reviews out there already, but I find the opinions of Dakka to be of.... more refined taste *swirls wine around in her glass*.

I'd really like to see a section of the board dedicated to reviews of games, rules, miniatures, terrain, paints, etc. I think it would cut down on the number of "recommend me an X" or "best cheap airbush?" posts.

There is a Reviews section in the Articles page for just this sort of thing.

Although maybe more stickies wouldn't go astray. Having an airbrush sticky in P&M would certainly be helpful.

Reviews are more suited to articles--as snrub pointed out--, YouTube, or personal blogs.

Having a review forum doesn't necessarily mean people will read them, either, or be willing to wade through 5 separate airbrush review threads to get an idea on the general range. The greater likelihood is that someone will look at the first 3 or so threads, not find what they're looking for, and start a thread in the review forum asking for reviews. After all, if people could comprehend the magic of the Search function--or even just a little patience and willingness to check any further than the top half of the first page--, a review forum for the purposes of cutting down on repetitive topics wouldn't be necessary.

Whilst a review forum might contain some of these threads to one place, the downside is that it might simply become the "give me reviews for X" forum. Let's face it, people are lazy, so why would they suddenly start looking through the review forum for that airbrush recommendation if they weren't willing to do it in P&M? That and at least the P&M topics contain multiple personal 'reviews' of a wide range of products, as opposed to what might be a smaller range or even individual reviews in a forum for that purpose.

But aside from the rather objective "X is bad, Y is good" or even "X and Y are good, so it's personal preference" stuff, having to deal with subjective reviews on rules and other systems will be an absolute paradise for trolls, and would probably breed arguments larger than YMDC, or even as large as some of the things you get in OT.

Whilst "build me an army for X race", "what X is best?", and "I want to play X, how is it?" threads are a bit of a pain, they're currently a tolerable annoyance, and one that doesn't really require much action. At worst, someone'll have to copy/paste their response to the same question someone asked earlier in the week. With a review forum, however, not only do the mods have another place to police, but users will be no more willing to search through things that they are normally, so it'll likely end up being a place where users ask "Can someone give me reviews for X" instead of "Can someone tell me which X is best?". Same old crap, different title.

I also apologise for probably having typed far more than I needed to get the point across, but it's currently 7am, I haven't slept, and I'm irritable.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

This was one of those pre-bed thoughts... the kind you really don't *need* to share with others, but you feel compelled.

Snrub answered my question.
