I'm in the process of planning an Imperial Knight force, and the rough concept for the background so that they're a collection of Freeblades that have come together as a group.

This is a thinly veiled excuse to allow me to paint each model as an individual, rather than duplicate a Household scheme (they're mainly for display, I don't anticipate fielding them more than once in a blue moon) but after completing one in a similar green/gold scheme to the GW Gerantius colours, I find myself somewhat paralysed with choice, so to try and garner some inspiration, I thought I'd open it up to Dakka and see.

Feel free to suggest either your favourite colours on a Knight (I have 3 x GW ones and will ultimately have one of each FW Cerastus variant, so there's plenty of room!) or just your favourite colour combination in general.

You can even have a third spot colour if you're good.

I've always been partial to blue and orange. The blue can be a deep, French Blue or rich Teal, and the orange is more like a Dusty Orange or non-metallic Copper. Handsome!

I have been using the pic in the link below and MS paint to try some different colour combos.

Really dark blue and then a green-dealers choice on the shade. My IH successor have this shimmery/glowy green which came about as a result of a mishap with too much underhive ash (didn't check how much was on the drybrush) over Straken green, which I later tried to even out with Waywatcher green glaze. Didn't balance as well as I thought it might, but gave me a look that I decided I liked.

Part of the attraction Word Bears have for me is the red/silver combo. You could paint a Knight in these colors with the story that during a bloody war he became the last survivor and the pilot painted it in honor of those who had fallen. Changing slightly is the Alpha Legion colors of dark blue/silver. Not sure how that would be explained if even needed.

Thanks for the responses so far!

I'm liking the idea of dark blue/silver for one of them.

Don't feel you have to limit your responses to what would fit on a Knight though everyone, I genuinely was interested in what people's favourite combinations were in a vacuum, I like dark purple/sky blue, green and gold, purple and white with gold spot colours (hence I'm doing a CSM art in Emperors Children Legion colours)

Don't be shy, throw in your ideas!

In no particular order, some of my favourite colour combos are.

Green and grey
Green and silver
Green and black
Blue and grey
Red and grey

I'd think any of those would look good on a Knight.

Easiest method would be use a color wheel, find a main color you like and try a "split complementary" scheme.
Spoiler:
Then you could reverse that method.
Think of these knights standing together: how would it look?
I think a black and then a white knight would be cool to see.
I would avoid a primarily green and then another primarily red knight... especially this close to Christmas.
Blue with Orange trim is VERY striking (direct complimentary).

Maybe: Main colour - Trim colour: Blue-orange, Purple-yellow, Red-green?
The shoulder pads give an area to play around though, like stripes or checks.
Purple with yellow-black hazard stripes are really cool looking.

My best shot at it, have fun!
