Just curious as to what people like and why they like it? I'm currently reading the Blood Angels and I like the style and organization but feel like it can use more artwork and fluff.

Haven't read the BA yet but I like the AM book.
Anything but the GK's "no, you can't do that" army list.

I think most of the books released post 7E-release are all very good in general, even if not particularly wildly innovative (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). If I had to pick one, I'd say probably the BA book.
Personally I think the worst one was the IG (er..."Astra Militarum") and Militarum Tempestus books. Lots of wholesale unit and character deletion in the Astra Militarum book, the horrible renaming of the army, and largely no fixing of units that needed it, while the Militarum Tempestus book is just a couple of IG units stuck into their own codex with a couple formations and a complete lack of support, along with fluff that reads largely like Harry Potter torture porn.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.
New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts. |

I voted imperial knights because love them or hate they added something new to 40K. Now if only they would do a truly new xenos race/codex.

Both the Tyranids and Blood Angels, and it's looking like the Necrons too, need Supplements and Formations to be worth anything. So they're out of the running completely. The Tyrannocyte, the single bit that makes Tyranids better than a mono-build army, isn't in the codex.
The Dark Eldar have powerful Formations in the Covens, but that's just the Haemonculus side of Dark Eldar. Wych Cults and Kabals aren't included in there and they have very strong builds as well. Reavers are still friggin incredible with Venom and Raider support.
Imperial Knights is an insult to codecies. Two units is NOT an army. That's a Dataslate. They should have been rolled into Astra Militarum where they belong and kept as an AM only choice like the Ork Stompa. Lord of War that thing.

Well, I'm surprised that we have seen that many codices this year.
Its hard to tell which one is the best.
Besides the new IK codex, all others have been down graded a bit.
Playable, but not much fun to play.

Despite losing a few beloved Characters, the new Dark Eldar book has been great to us. Nostalgia aside, the old book ran the problem of so many units being completely and utterly worthless that only around 1/3 of the book was usable. Now, almost everything has it's uses, Hellions aside. Yes, i have used Wyches, and they preform just as well or better then before. What people don't account is that Dark Eldar shouldn't be in assault until turn 3/4 due to Null Deployment or Reserve Manipulation, and by then a Wych is almost looking to be worth those 10pts.
While i would love to get Vect in a dataslate or something, it was a well done and more importantly, internally balanced codex.

Space Wolves, easily, simply by virtue of having been neutered the least.
It got to keep all its SC's and units, which no other codex made this year can claim, and it even got some new stuff on top of it. It lost a lot of its flavor and creativity, but so did every other 2014 codex.
At least its playable on its own merits, unlike many of the other codices (like Deldar and Tyranids) that are ass on the competitive scene without supplements.

This is actually a great poll result. The tally is so close between the various codices!
I picked Blood Angels, mostly because I'm still excited about it, but it could have just as easily gone to space wolves or dark eldar. Or Orks.
Not Imperial Knights because I am still mad I spent $50 on a book with 7 pages of rules LOL.

I went Space Wolves because they seem to have lost the least. I do like the way the newer Codexes seem to be more balanced, but I don't like how they've been dropping characters and units only to (sometimes) sell them back to you as a data slate. I don't think IK should have been a separate codex, or if it was they should have had a couple more types of Knight at least, more like the FW HH Knight list.
Blood Angels I feel is still a little new to properly judge. But I would have gone them just because Blood Angels are cool.
I had high hopes for the Dark Eldar codex (I still think the 5th edition DE codex is one of the best Codexes written) but it was a bit disappointing. The Covens side is good, but again that's in a supplement you have to buy extra.
Tyranids is pretty awful without extra formation support. But I do like that they released models for an army without waiting for the next codex. I think that's a good trend to get into.

Clearly it is Grey Knights. They are super competitive again and their cheesy Dreadknight got even cheesier. Their alpha strike gimmick is a pain in the *** and they can make super broken combos with IoM armies (which are on par with Taudar of 6th)

But...ummm...yeah I can't argue against any of this. It not only got to keep all of what it had, it added a few units and a character. I chose Blood Angels since it is the new shiny and the only new codex I have bought, despite having a small force of Space Wolves.

They were all pretty terrible, weren't they?
If we count the post-codex additions, I think the Tyranids are probably ahead. Maybe not in power but at least in variety.

Yeah, the codices are all at the same level.
Eldar and Tau are greeting.

In raw strength? They're all quite bad, but Guard tank spam is pretty annoying to fight, and I've seen Orks do quite well with a couple builds, though like all codexes since Space Marines, the current good builds are not the old ones, and the old good ones are incredibly awful.
In terms of overall quality; flavour, number of viable options and internal/external balance, I'd probably go with Orks or Blood Angels. Orks can Green Tide, bury people in Stormboyz or mech up all with decent results; not top tier, but they're not going to be just rolled over. Losing any force-org modifications, like all the 7th edition codexes hurts their options, but Boyz are at least pretty good and cheap, so you're not being hampered too badly by having to take some.
Blood Angels are more nebulous, as I haven't seen them in action, but having played a lot of vanilla Marines, what they bring, even without formations is solid with several decent routes, but again, invalidate old armies almost completely.
I also fething hate the new Guard codex. Spam tanks and run the Pask Punisher, and yeah, you'll blow stuff up and are one of the few armies that can really stand up to Tau and Eldar, but everything else is borderline awful that isn't vets in Chimeras. the 5th edition codex was pretty bland, but this was a whole new level of insult to the former diversity the Imperial Guard had, especially since the codex fluff makes every effort to hype up the diversity of the Imperial Guard, but there is absolutely zero way to represent that unless Forgeworld likes you.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

I would have voted ofr Inquisition, Assassins, and Militarum Tempestus codexes if you'd had them.
Not for letting Imperials spam daemonology, not for permitting sooooo many broken combos (they've still got less than C:SM, GK or Eldar).
Just for letting me do those fluffy lists and stay bound.

That is with or without supplements. nids without supplements are rather bad, with them they are top tier. Same with GK, they get a lot weaker without ally

Blood angels have all their characters and units.
Dark eldar dex is fine assuming you have a brain though same could be said of any army unless its wolves who just spam thunderwolves as its only decent thing in dex worth taking that makes them work plus without the sw supplement they would be mediocre at best
