I am making my own vanilla space marine chapter. I finally figured out the paint scheme to mimic the Takeda samurai armor the best I could. So mainly blood red and chaos black (I don't know the newer citadel paint names lol). I am here to ask for some help on making them look unique. I am new to WH40K and I am wondering about some better ideas for space marine bits instead of the vanilla kits. Any help would be awesome

I've got some tips:
First of all, your paint shceme will probably turn out great. You said you wanted to make samurai armour? Well, take a look at these links:
http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/ This is an awesome website, check it out.
http://www.bitsandkits.co.uk/ A site to buy spare bits. Perfect!

Please, post pictures of you Marines when you've painted them.

There are a lot of third party manufacturers who make interesting conversion bits; Anvil (mentioned above), puppets war, maxmini, etc. See the pinned post at the top of the P&M section of this forum.

For interesting GW bits, for my chapter I've used a lot of chaos, BA (a they're a BA successor after all) , and black templar bits (the chained up weapons specifically). Have a look at bits sites like hoard o' bits or Hobby Titan for a reasonably efficient way to buy specific parts.

Nah I'm not making samurai armor just the paint the way Takeda armor. I'm just thinking of different helmets and shoulders to make them not look like vanilla marines. Im probably going to try to find some black Templar helmets and try to find some shoulder pads from something forge world that's not a chapters shoulder pad already.
