I have been rebuilding my collection of "elfy-lookin" models lately, and I think I know what I want. I want an army that I can use for Fantasy or 40k (or RPGs/Mordheim/whatever). I want to make the models look familiar to the traditional fantasy setting (sword and board, low tech) but with oddly futuristic bits. This is where I came up with my Lost in Spaaaaaace elves idea.

From a 40k perspective, how would you guys do this to put it on the table? I already know that Raiders look rad as pirate ships, but would spears and crossbows look too out of place in 40k? What about horses or raptors instead of bikes?

The other part of this includes adding some Exodite Eldar components to it, though all the Eldar stuff I own models-wise is Iyanden themed. Any ideas?

This is a galaxy where swords, axes and giant hammers are a dime a dozen, so no reason spears and crossbows would be out of place.

The Iron Snakes SM chapter uses Power Spears (or Lances or whatever they call them) and look pretty cool doing so.

Attilan Rough Riders IG regiment famously uses horses (as ridiculous as that seems considering this setting) so that wouldn't be unprecedented.

Would have to be some rather bold horses to tour the webway regularly I'd imagine.

Considering the setting, Power Spears and wookee crossbows seem perfectly logical to me.

To quote a fictional character... "Let's make this fun!"

There was a story in the SM omnibus where a single kroot killed 2-3 marines then ate their gene seed and became a Kroot-startes.

We must all join the Kroot-startes...

I think this idea is really cool and looking at the dark elf fantasy models some I actually would prefer for 40k

Huzzah! It all started when I wanted to make a Fantasy army and used my extra Kabalite warrior bits to fill out the unit.

Alrighty. Plowing ahead, wookiee crossbows and all!

Alright, I've been forging a narrative as hard as I can (my fingers are pruney, y'all), and I think I've got it. Short Version:

Maiden world settled by Exodites falls into the general trappings of Eldar psychology, until largess, excess and depravity tip the scales (planet-wide) and knock their civilization back to the late Bronze Age. The new mode for life is not about self-sacrifice, but for competition and staying alive.

At some point, they meet up with some Pirates or a crippled Craftworld AND GO ON ADVENTURES.. The Maiden world supplying a healthy (though a little too "pre-fall" for the craftworlders) population of soldiers, and the Craftworld or Corsairs supplying the tech.

I'm still going to put sails and harpoons on the Raiders if I can, and I'm going to stick firm to 50% of the army with low-tech weapons.

Try grabbing some Sisters of Averlorn for the laser bows, you don't have to come up with a lot of technobabble for why your bows are piercing armour when they're magic glowing bows.
