So I basically played every game of 6th and 7th edition with Meph leading my army because, doye, and I had a converted model with wings for him that I was pretty pleased with, because his actual fig is super dated looking and doesn't at all convey the monster army killer that he is.
However, now that the new dex is out, and he didn't get his wings back, that figure was looking pretty dated too. I needed to build a new one, and since he's still really good, I wanted the fig to look hard. I also wanted to give him a helmet, since I sorta hate marines without helmets (sticking that much armor on the rest of your body and then exposing your dome seems a bit daft to me).

So here he is, I feel like he looks plenty Mephiston-ey that it'll still be obvious who he is without the flowing golden locks.

Paint job is pretty cool man.

I know you hate marines without helmets, Mephy is just one of those models though that would be hard to pull off with a helmet. He looks so epic without one. Especially in his art work.

Also I I think you need a tad more Umphf! So i have a suggestion. I saw a conversion done with vampire count bat wings I believe, and he also had a hood! ya might like the hood idea too since its not helmet less per say. It made him look really dark.

Hooded marines do look pretty boss, but no wayyyy, this Mephiston is ready to do battle in the void.

I think there are too many skulls. Those are typically a chaplain styling, there might be confusion as to what model that represents.

Rule #2 is Do Cool S*%* Even If It's Tactically Inadvisable
Winning is something like Rule #17.

Well, the thing is, the actual Mephiston model has a huge skull on one pauldron, and two bronze skulls on his psychic hood. The only skull I added was the one on the helmet. Meph needs a unique looking helmet, and he is the lord of death, so I think it's fitting. The skull is stylized and the helmet is still red, so I don't think it's too chaplainey looking.

Looks like a Chaplin to me. I don't even play BA but the idea of a helmeted meph is a turn off. He is so epic he has no need for a helmet. The black cloth parts are a little to glossy for my taste.

Yeah, but every marine has a helmet. Even meph can't walk around on an airless moon or in a depressurized space ship without one and marines fight in environments like that all the time. This represents that.

As for the cloth parts, I wanted em to look like leather so I made em shiny. The effect is a lil less pronounced IRL, I had a huge light pointed right at him for the picture.

I love this! The Mephiston from GW is definitely dated, and this...this is EPIC! the pose is so dynamic and really gives a lord of war feel that so many don't. The facemask skull is a great touch, gives a bit of a Punisher-esque feel.

Thanks mate! Punisher is a good vibe since he's a murder machine.

It doesn't look like a Chaplain, don't worry. His helmet isn't sculpted like a skull (it's almost Night Lords ), and he's missing the giant mace they all carry. And he looks cool with a helmet, I don't personally mind non helmeted SM, but I can understand why you would, and Mephiston has just as much need for a helmet, no matter how 'bad ass' he is.

So yeah, great Mephiston!

I like it alot! I'd just change the lens colour to green, and maybe paint a few gems on him green too (like the one on the collar)

also, whats up with the shiny cloak/loin cloth?

I have half a mind to kill you, and the other half agrees

Thanks!
I wanted them to look like leather, not cloth, and the effect is much more subdued IRL. There's a fluorescent lamp like six inches away from him in this picture.

I know blood angels generally have green eye lenses, but I don't paint any of mine like that unless they're normal librarians. Too christmas-ey looking for my taste otherwise. All my blood angels have yellow, gold, black or red eye lenses, so he fits in with the rest of my army pretty okay.

Too many skulls? This is 40k dammit!

On topic, I like it a lot. The pose is dynamic and the idea of a Marine going to battle without a helmet seems a little daft. I like the colours and the shade that you got on the red. It's all good

Love the conversion, particularly the armor and pose, but personally I´d swap the helmet into some kind of bossy face with long blonde hair. Mephiston is too badass not to show his intimidating old school look.
