I've been pondering recreating the terrain from the Necro box for a while, and finally got around to starting.
I was planing on laser cutting for a while, but I think I've found a new way: die cutting.
Test piece in a thin card (styrene test coming shortly...)
raw card assembled, with the GW bulkhead, on a sheet of .060 styrene
With rivets and resin bits (Pardulon and Dragon Forge)
And with a lick of paint....

Holy gak!! I was scrolling down so when I rolled from the final build picture to the painted version I almost went into shock! LOL
Great work I absolutely love what you did with this! I would buy terrain like this to play on! Very nice job!
More on the way I'm guessing?

AWESOME! How long did that take?
My only crit is that the base looks very plain next to the weathered building. I reckon that some washes & some foliage growing against the building with patches of static grass & maybe some rubbish?

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!! |

Base more detail oil stains, bodies, fluids from drums or to keep bunker theme air filters. Just my suggestion but the paintins more ace than da krimson barun (ork fighta ace).

Yes, the base needs some love, grass, moss, etc...
Assembly took maybe 20 minutes... Rivets took an hour or two. There's 252 of them...
I'm considering building up a line of kits to sell, this being one of them. Mind you, the GW bulkhead replaced with a custom cut piece.
So, as a kit, with all rivets (no other detail bits) and no base, would people be interested?
And price point for a kit like this. $7? $10? What do you think is fair for a kit Iike this?

I just want to say it looks great, and thank you for listing the sources of your bits. I was not familiar with either of those sites, but I just checked them out and I can't wait to order some of their excellent building accessories. Thanks for sharing! I love when people show excellent models and then list where the components came from because it helps the rest of us learn where to get things.

If possible, would you mind explaining laser cutting vs. die cutting? Is this some equipment that you have access to that most generally wouldn't? Or are you taking a design to a 3rd party or ??
Thanks!

Sure thing. Both laser cutting and die cutting are ways to take a drawn path an cut it from a material. Laser seems a little more versatile, being able to cut thicker materials. Die cutting, at least the way I'm doing it, has an advantage with thin materials.
A consumer grade laser cutter will cost you about $4,000 (on the very low end). The die cutter I'm using is about $1200.So, it's a bit more attainable. General process for either, is to create your artwork in vector, Adobe Illustrator in my case, and then have the machine cut it out. Engraving and scoring are also possible with these processes, to differing degrees.
I've farmed out some laser cutting n the past, and was discouraged by the materials i was limited to. In this case, I'll be using thin (.020) plasticard and creating the details I want through layering.
Any more questions, let me know.

Yep, to get the main structure together is quick, 10-20 minutes. Applying the rivets takes some time. One-by-one. An hour or 2 sounds about right.
252 on the piece at the beginning of this thread, with a custom bulkhead that number will go up.

So you're thinking of making and selling Necromunda style building kits in plastic and not MDF? Colour me interested.

Next piece done, again drawn from the Necro boxed set. Many details added. I think it was meant to sit on bulkheads, but I added I beams instead.

If you can manage to get versions of the Gorkamorka cardstock buildings available (even without all the orky add ons....which would be a great extra bag of bits to sell) I would be hard pressed to avoid paying you any amount of money.

Sorry man, I have too much time invested in drawing these and figuring out how to make them work to just pass them out.
