I've been toying around with the idea of running a black tide list. Using max crusader squads and simply foot slogging it up to the enemy and overwhelm them with loads of marines. I don't often play in a competitive setting, and I do not plan on taking this into a tournament. But the idea is to run at least 4-5 crusader squads in a 2k list. For added fear I also threw in an allied knight. Has anyone had any luck with running something like this? The units are priced nicely at around 266 points for 19 marines. 9 marines, 9 scouts ans 1 SB with their weapon upgrades as well. Or should i stick with my LRC squads?

I don't think it will work out at all. Most armies will be able to shoot it down pretty effectively. And those squads cost quite a bit for trying to make a horde army.

And even if you do make it across the board they aren't all that good in close combat. Plus setting up the layout would be tricky because you want the scouts to die first so you would think putting them in front would be better. But you want the unit to survive so you would put the 3+ save in front. So there's kind of a priority problem.

Well, as already said, this is not a good idea.
A tide of Marines is too expensive pt wise to field.
Use transports to get them to the objectives asap.

I love tides of marines: Heldrake fodder, eartshaker bait, vespid food, thousand son snacks, warp talon nibbles...

Try it, it'll be fun to watch.

Take 3 bunkers in a network. Give each an escape hatch. Now each can catapult your units forward 18" (including disembark), turn 1.

Or take another primary detachment of raptors including issodon as your warlord. Issodon grants infiltrate to three units and has it himself. He also has scout. Take a raptors librarian for a further scout. Then take 2 bunkers with escape hatches.

The list would look like the following:

Raptors
Issodon (with crusder squad #1)
Infiltrates crusader squads #1 & #2 & librarian

Librarian (with crusader squad #2)
Melta bombs

5 scouts
Snipers

5 scouts
Bolters

Landspeeder (deepstrike)
2 multimeltas

Landspeeder (deepstrike)
2 multimeltas

Bunker

Black Templars

Librarian (with crusader squad #3)
Melta bombs

Crusader squad #1
Powerfist (hidden), 10 Initiates, 9 neophytes

Crusader squad #2
Powerfist (hidden), 10 Initiates, 9 neophytes

Crusader squad #3 (in bunker)
Powerfist (hidden), 10 Initiates, 9 neophytes

Crusader squad #4 (in bunker)
Powerfist (hidden), 10 initiates, 8 neophytes

Landspeeder (deepstrike)
2 multimeltas

2000pts.

Issodon infiltrates crusader squads 1 & 2 plus libby. Libby and issodon scout units 1 & 2 6" further. Unit one has shrouded and stealth. Unit 2 has stealth.
Units 3 & 4 catapult 18 +d6" (including run) forward turn 1.
So four massive SM units in your face T1.
Scouts objective sit.
Each crusader squad has a hidden fist for AT and anti mc. Squads 1-3 have melta bombs on their characters.
Landspeeders for anti tank.

Weak to Air.

Will work with a knight in a not uber-competitive enviroment. People tend to underestimate marines.

While the above list has a solid theory, do note that throwing Lias in a Crusader squad is just silly. Buy yourself a nice Centurion Devastator squad with Grav, and then start infiltrating any further bonus units afterwards if you can.

To be fair here, lias is pretty silly with anything that is remotely useful on its own right.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.
