Hello, Dakka!
I am starting a small miniature company that will be catering to fans of anthropomorphic or "furry" characters in miniatures form. To try and develop the best product I'm trying to contact as many people I am aware off on Dakka that would be interested in such products, to help develop the best product line I can. If you could take a moment to fill. All questions are optional in the survey, so don't have to be answered if a option doesn't best represent what your looking for.
(Any question in the survey can be skipped, and if you have no interest in furry miniatures this survey is probably not for you.)
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5SXCCZZ
Thank you!
Feel free to post comments, questions, or suggestions!

Not really. If you haven't got anything useful to say why butt into a topic? Anyway, the OP should look at recent anthropomorphic miniature ranges like Flintloque.

I wouldn't buy them, so I'm not going to fill out the survey, but I imagine there's room in the marketplace for them, depending on what genre you're going for.
Brushfire has the whole Medieval/Renaissance thing down, and Crocodile Games has a very specific Ancient Egyptian Gods line. That said, a unique spin on either could be successful
Flintloque has Napoleonic animal-people, but IMO every single Flintloque sculpt is hot garbage. I'm not sure that I've ever seen worse looking miniatures in my life.
Best of luck to you!

Fairly niche,
but there's certainly a market for them if they're well done (please don't go for oversized heads, they just look like they're people with costume heads on)
you probably need to think about whether you're aiming at the 'sexy catgirl' market or the 'catgirl' market
as I suspect many (most?) prospective shoppers will be after one or the other (and probably won't look at your line again if they think you're doing the wrong one)
also how 'anthropomorphic' your figures are going to be (basically just animal heads on human bodies, or more)

apologies to Boggy Man and Stevefamine that you are so disgusted by the idea. But like it or not anthropomorphic charaters and races have always been a part of traditional gaming. The original pigfaced orcs of early D&D to the DragonBorn and Kitsune of latter D&D and pathfinder.
I'm sorry that the fact I have no problem also selling to and catering to furies offends you.
I'm pragmatic, and in the end everyone's money is the same.

the 1st wave I'm having sculpted right now are Fox and Wolfe heads that are scaled to fit most current heroic 28mm scale with matching tails to sell as a conversation pack. This survey to to help gauge future additions to my line.

This. I filled out the survery, but there are a lot of spelling mistakes that may influence some people, giving them the idea of lack of profissionalism.
Anyway, I'm all up for more anthropomorphic figures. Hell, maybe one day I'll be able to create the cast of my favorite game of all time, Shining Force III; there's a severe lack of "Grace" out there.

No, it's true. It was unprofessional of me not to have someone spell check it for me, before releasing. I do feel really bad I allowed that to happen. I know my limitation and should of made sure they were addressed 1st.
edit:
Also of note. If I do "catgirl" it's not nekomimi cat girl, It will be more like a grace catgirl/elder scrolls khajiit/Cat-Folk you see in some RPG's

As a furry artist and wargamer you bet I want furry minis. I took the survey to help you out. And wish you the best of luck. If someone came out with a conversion kit to make Space Marines, IG, Sisters, Inquisition, Tau, even Eldar into furries I'd scoop it up in a heartbeat. Especially big cats for my Blood Tigers.
If you have an FA lmk, and I'll note you over there if you want. I know someone that commissions 40k primarchs and special characters as furries.

Thank you!
The best way to maby put it is that Nekomimi isn't something I'm ageist doing, It's just I'm not prioritizing them.
I've been crushing numbers and will be starting off with releasing conversation bits because these are quicker to produce then full figures and work better with my current cash flow starting off. If I am successful I hope to expand into releasing full figures.
Because of the lack of plastic female kits on the market, I'm afraid that neko-mimi heads would be even more niche then what I'm already looking into producing sadly. Reaper Bones are the only ones I can think off of the top of my head. Thus Nekomimi is a topic that needs to be done as a whole figure and not conversion bits to do it justice. Even then their is the question of if their would be as much demand compared to other figures.
I'm am one of the controversial people that feel nekomimi is closely related to furry, so it's with-in the scope of what I'm trying to achieve. It's something I would love to be able to do it if I can think of a way I can comfortably approach the topic. nekomimi is dreadfully under represented on the table top lol
Hope that made sense.

I'm gonna be honest, are you sure you will enough of a market to turn a profit? Both furrydom and gaming are incredibly niche, combining the two even more so, that you may have enough trouble meeting volume to turn a profit, regardless of your quality.

Always interested in more bits. Are these going to be realistically-portrayed, or more stylised?
Not really being au fait with what furry actually entails, my immediate thought was for cool mutants and beastmen etc.
There doesn't seem to be an option for goats, bulls etc., so any chance they'd be a possibility, or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

They'll probably be fairly stylized, but of course 40k is already stylized so it'll be up to you to determine of it fits with your idea of the setting or not.

OI! Please no discussions about Furry or how it's the spawn of the devil or some such non-sense, not the place.
On topic: There's a severe lack of nekomimi stuff tbh. These are the only ones I have ever seen 28mm and me and my FLGS owner bought and shared one pack of them just because of how rare they are. We had to have such minis in our collection. (ok, and in my case: I love cat-girls)
The miniatures are fantastic, they look exactly like the artwork, even the bikini strings are there.
Hopefully one day you'll be able to do something similar

Survey completed.
Market research is a good idea. Once you have an initial idea from several surveys, you may want to consider a kickstarter, just to see how many people are willing to actually purchase the items. However, if your upfront costs are low enough, you may be willing to take the risk of making the molds anyway.
I though I would also mention Tooth and Sword, chibi minis as something that is already out there. Even though there are a few lines out there, I think that there is room in the marketplace.

All I can say at this time is that they are being sculpted in scale with most popular 28mm heroic minis.
As for the furry/war gaming overlap I am aware of this. This is why stuff like gnolls and other man monsters are priority onve i can expand into full mini's. These have some of the widest appeal after all.

I will say I think this is a fantastic idea, lets be honest to those who are complaining, Anthro Aliens are always much more interesting and better looking than the typical "Earth Worm Jim" aliens or aliens that look almost 100% human with a different skin color, those two usually are not very attractive of alien concepts. Ones that do well that are not Anthro like in some way are very difficult to create new concepts of, such as Aliens and Predators, Tyranids , Zerg and such are not easy concepts to produce and take a lot of concept art and polls from the targeted community to get an idea of what people like and always come with some risk.
Not all of us have HP lovecraftian imagination levels to create such unique races. I think as long as the anthros are done with a more animal focus and less humans with cat ears style approach ( sorry Draconic Lord, but its just my taste just like the different colored human aliens)
I would defiantly recommend making them more gritty and less high and happy like, these two links are images from a project were I was searching for sci fi race ideas came across and I think It would be something you can take great inspiration from for a more gritty near future look on them if you go with that .
http://25.media.tumblr.com/a9198caf6a3feecab33fe25b454effb8/tumblr_mzu5ssPSyF1sgpjb4o9_r1_1280.png

I would like to see something that is more near future or sci fi or a hybrid of the two with some fantasy elements, but not a fan of Grim dark fantasy future settings as keeping your range more visibly open to other settings I think would help greatly for sales with the growing diversity of the miniature market place.
Please also do with true scale for your miniatures, "Heroic" goofy portions are something that is no longer needed in the market with the wealth of capable and great sculptors we have in the market now adays, and also the market is moving towards true scaled miniatures and is something I would highly recommend for you to consider with them as I can almost guarantee going with true scale will make for many more sales.
Also I would like to ask do you plan to do a game system with these miniatures? Also what material will you be using? Metal or Resin are both fine with me, if you plan a larger production I would go with metal a smaller one I would go with resin , It also counts on the size of your miniatures as well as I am sure a massive dragonborn like character may be better off in resin than metal.
