Never understood Termies ranged weapons.

They only have storm bolters as standard weapons? Then can choose some Assault Cannons or Flamers, but why not hand carried mortars? Plasma cannons 1h ver or las cannons?

They also have the Cyclone. And, possibly, combi-weapons. Are those still in use? Anyway, there are two ways to answer you question. The fluff says that conventional heavy weapons dont work so well in termy working environments. Perhaps Plasma Cannons or Lascannons which need extra power sources dont get along with the bulky exosuits that also need extra power. And then there is the thing about having Devastators with a 2+, 5++ save combo, DS, power fists and and all those other Terminator perks. Letting them camp objectives or strike in behind the enemy tankline might be a bit much. Then again, I havent played this game since 3d ed so my views are somewhat outdated.

If Tactical Terminators came with Assault Cannons base and did not have any change in points, they MIGHT be appropriately costed.

Because GW thinks storm bolters are the awesome, and that tactical terminators should have them. So it was written, so it shall be.

I think GW just fogot them to upsell them next edition. Plenty of units around with nasty combos already.

But yeah, storm bolters are kinda meh. Terminators are relentless, but storm bolters are assault, kinda funny. Should allow 2 heavy weapons per squad at 200pts all in imo.

I miss the days when my WG termies could all pack assault cannons and cyclones. So much death.

Storm bolter, HF, assault cannon and cyclone are normal ranged weapons for all termis but DA. They get plasma cannons. Its a throw back to early 40k.

IF GW sells alot of the DW kits than perhaps plasma canons will be seen in other armies but than again its DA..........

GK Terms be rockin that psycannon. 4 str7 shots rending is actually pretty boss.

I also play DA. Sometimes I field them together. Both hate chaos much so - I think they get along okay.

I think some 30k terminators can basically all have a special weapon, or automatically come with them.

If I remember termies were designed for close infighting like onboard ships and space hulks and all where range was not an issue. In those environments, weapons like heavy flamers and assault cannons were more appropriate than las cannons and plasma cannons.

The problem we have is that the normal battlefield is not that environment. So are the termies being given the "wrong" weapons or are we using them in a role they were not designed for?

I would say by all means upgrade them to fit the new environment they are being usd in. I dont wanna be the one to broach the subject with Mars, Dont wanna end up as a servo skull.

Tactical termies shooting are pretty ineffective. Storm bolters are not quite that devastating.

The assault variety is more effective when used right. + storm sheilds a lot more durable at times.
