It's probably too soon for most people to have tried it but has anyone played a game of N3 yet? How did you find it? What rules do you like? Dislike? And what problems did you come across that we should keep an eye out for?

If you haven't tried them yet what do you think of the rules you have read so far? Any confusions! What are you excited to test out or dissatisfied with?

Still reading it (I get no games time between Xmas and new year - and my copy of the rules arrived on Dec 22).

Will do intro games for my local players so they can get their heads around the changes next week sometime.

four of my armies are unplayable until they release the remaining profiles (I'm not using mismatched points costs from a list an edition behind - that was one of the reasons I stopped playing 40k.).

Starter box games will be the way until they do update stuff.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Hiding behind terrain

Ive been reading the rule pdf a little but mainly still using the O:I rulebook as I learn the basics of infinity. Im also a bit put off by the varying edition profiles as I dont want to be memorizing anything that might be redundant.

My closest flgs is a fair distance away and a pain in the ass to get to, so I'll probably not bother going to their infinity night very often. I'll stick to learning bits and pieces at my own pace at home which is good for me as Ive only played a couple scenarios so far from O:I

The only input i can really have is I like the way the use of tokens plays out but I don't know if thats changed from previous editions.

I have gotten in 6 games so far.

Using nomads from OI with the tag and hackers or my own creations from book, same with pano.

They made a wonderful game even better. I cant speak highly enough of how much the 3 of us who play it like it.

The missions are fun. You will def want to print out the ITS for 2014 and use it or the new one when it comes out. And in your lists you want specialists, AKA a doctor, engineer, paramedic, hacker, forward obs.

The examples in the book are super clear. You either meet the requirements and do it or don't. Very clear text. No sifting through paragraphs. Also the hacking chart is very friendly once you understand how it works. I love hacking now.

Hard to write everything I like about it. If you have questions feel free to ask!

  • Mobility and kit on your specialists seems to be even more important. Terrific.

  • Command tokens are interesting but I'm not liking the feel of them.

  • Those with access to good hackers will love the new hacking rules.

  • Coordinated order. I tended to use it a lot in previous edition, the spearhead and only a single burst for the rest of the participants felt very different. The weight of fire was usually enough before, now you usually want to use high ballistic or a unit with long range weapon with a heavy unit as the spearhead. It has other uses as well, simply moving your army forwards so the models can contest the objectives. It costs a command token so it's not something you casually want to do.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

Still reading through the rules at the moment, hopefully get a game in towards the end of this week although certainly very encouraging to read the comments above.

Completely agree that everyone will want to take a hacker now - even if they might not be that effective, it kind of feels like taking a psyker used to in 2nd edition 40k in that the extra involvement with their abilities just looks like a lot of fun. Think fans of the old sci-fi movie 'Scanners' will like to use them now, definitely

Change of LoL rule is a big one and I think actually makes more sense, goes some way also to mitigating that it's now harder to hide when you are using your lieutenant.

I've played since first and third is a huge improvement over the previous two editions. The rules are much more cleanly written ( translated) and intuitive.

I personally haven't had much luck with the new hacking rules. Stupid dice.
The new hacking abilities aren't a game breaking addition , just a nice new layer to game play that was easier to ignore in the past.

    OKLAHOMA!!!

I had the chance to get a couple of games in at our groups Infinity game night and I had fun learning the new rules.

I look forward to diving deeper into the nuances this weekend.

I have only played the first mission of icestorm with the girlfriend so far. I knew that you could die easily in infinity but didn't realise quite how easily. It's cool though means mistakes can really cost you if you are not careful.

The girlfriends pan o best my nomads but the first game was fun, pretty sure we got the rules a little wrong forgetting to add the bonus for ranges and take away bonuses for cover but we are excited to play it again.

Agree on the hacking. It can help you out but isnt going to be the be all end all (unless your playing a only HI list or TAG heavy list...)

In our last game, I Hacked the LT and made him immobile for 2 turns since he was a heavy, then I Isolated him. It was fun because that counts as a LoL. Also means that big guy had a max 2 orders in a turn and not 10.

At the very least, it helps you do missions objectives. Its rather dependent on the opponents list. such as one opponent played nothing higher then MI for Tohaa, and no hackers, so nothing to hack.

For the next game I plan to use my Aleph. Gimping myself point costs and CC stats (looking at you Achillies, get higher then 20!!) but I want to do some close combat murdering and dont want to wait for their updates

Basic and assault hacking devices seem fairly limited, upgraded and hacking device plus offer very different options.

I'm 10-12 games into 3rd edition, not counting playing through the Icestorm campaign a couple of times. I got into Infinity about 6ish years ago, and I've been loving 3rd so much.

I really think that they've fixed most of the niggles I had with the ruleset, the weapon range rebalancing is good (and needed) and the new hacking rules are great.

The only rule I really disliked was the flat 16" dispersion, but I can understand why they did it. With an easy +3 to get from a hacker, the total possible dispersion would be greatly reduced, meaning that even a failure would be still be OK a lot of the time. So I've accepted it.

Melee is a lot more relevant, especially for troops who specialise in it and Hacking is a useful tool box. Remoted have got a serious buff with reduced points costs, better support from hackers and more utility.

HI have been sped up so they can actually function in a striking role rather than durable fire support. I'm pretty happy about everything TBH,

Also agree on the melee buff. Very needed and makes it worth doing if your good at it. Havent used it yet as ive been waiting for Achillies new profile but might just give it a try as he is tomorrow.
