I am looking to play my first game against Imperial guard / Astra Militarium game.
This will be a Maelstrom of war mission.
I have no idea what the AM list will include.

I have just about every Necron model available in the Codex except flayers, praetorian, and lychguards.

What are the general AM strategies that are consistent with Maelstrom missions?
I assume Chimera spam with some Leman Russes in a gun line?

How well do they handle AV13?

Has anyone tried using the Maynarkh dynasty from IA12?
They have fear on the HQs and the scarabs with rending and shred.
If I face lots of troops those should be quite effective.
If I face a vehicle gun line those would be toast.

Chimera's are AV12 on front so Immortal Tesla isn't going to help until I can open them up.
Str 5 Tesla would eat T3 guardsmen fairly effectively.
Str 7 Destructors wouldn't be particularly effective against the Chimera's needing a 5 to glance so ABs are not as important.
Lemans are AV13.
So gauss seems to be recommended as there is too much risk of having to open up armor in the first round before scarabs can reliably get there.

I want to try a CCB and this seems like a good game to try one.
It suits the fast attack role and can easily kill the vehicles.
The squads with lots of attacks in CCB would be my primary concern.
I think I can follow the CCB with a wraith wing to engage anything the CCB leaves behind.

Scarabs are WS2 and T3 S3.
That should be a problem for WS3/T3/S3 guardsmen or vehicles if they get in.
i could get a lot of wounds for the cost of a wraith wing.
Anyone tried this?

I saw a battle report where an AM player used his superior range and forced the Necron player to walk over to engage.
It was fairly brutal until the Necron player could get in range to engage its gun line.
I believe fast attacks will be important Turn 1 pieces.

WarrI or and haywire teks in night scythes will be fairly effective against armor. Taking nemesor zan can give your warrior blobs tank hunter allowing you to get more sixes with guass. If you have a lot of los blocking terrain scarabs will be quite affective but otherwise will die rather quickly. Wraith and death marks won't be as effective, but you can still find use for them. The ccb is good at killing vehicles but it's a lot of points that you could use on something else if you wanted.

Charnel Scarabs are terrifyingly effective against nearly anything, especially if farmed up first. Can't handle AV13 or 14, but will obliterate more or less anything else they outnumber well enough. Sheer number of rending wounds can even devour storm shields pretty well.

Don't bother taking an Overlord if you run Maynark though: The special traits of their Lords make them less effective for the same cost. Stick to one of the named special characters or a Destroyer Lord.

Thanks for the input!

I am assuming that I will be facing long range fire power and mechanized forces

My first draft list is as follows:

Maelstrom of War Mission
Didn't want to field the T-Ctan this week.

Mephrit Dynasty FOC (1HQ / 3 Troop) benefit - reroll 1's on RA

HQ
Overlord / CCB - (MSS / PShifter / Weave / WS) - Relic - Solar Thermasite (+1S and reroll 1's on saving throws)

Royal Court - NLord (weave) / HODespair (Veil/Shroud) / HOStorm (Lightning Field) / HOStorm / HOStorm
HOStorm -
HOStorm -
NLord - (weave)

Elites
5x deathmarks

Troops
10x Immortals (Gauss)
7x Immortals IN Nscythe - HOStorm joins (Tesla)
10x warriors - NLord joins
9x warriors IN GArk -

Fast Attack
7x Scarabs
7x Scarabs
4x Tomb Blades (Gauss)

Heavy Support
2x AB
1x Doom Scythe

As you can see this is geared towards armor.
I intend to pressure them with the scarabs and CCB diverting their fire power from my troop blocks.
Hopefully, I can use the GA and tomb blades to get VPs in early turns.
Dmarks are included as an attempt to kill a command squad if one shows up.
Nlords with 2+ save is to provide staying power for units by tanking shots.
Royal Court is intended to DS near by his primary high AV threat and make 12x haywire shots to ensure that it is dead round 2. Nlord w/ 2+ tanks again.
I know he is bringing something AM from Forge world so I am assuming that this will be one of the tank varients and potentially a super heavy.
