So I have a possible upcoming game where I will be facing off against Tyranids, where my opponent will most likely be using lots of FMCs and a tervigon and guants (This is best guess, usually what he uses, not sure what can/will be in a 1000 pts nids list). The idea will be I will have 2 summoners that will try and summon as much as possible to get more and more models on the board.

HQ
Daemon Prince lvl 3
Daemon of Nurgle, Wings, Power Armor, Spell Familiar, Gift

Sorceror lvl 3
Gift of Mutation, Spell Familiar, Sigil of Corruption

Troops
Cultists x10

CSM x5
Rhino, meltagun

Heavy Support

Defiler
Warp Flame, Dirge Caster

Aegis w/ Quad

The idea is the sorceror joins the cultists to summon, the nurgle prince flies around sowing discord and the rhino marines drive to possibly grab objectives. This leaves me 45 points to play with and the defiler will try and hold down the units of gaunts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, not entirely sure how to play against Nids they are that one army I always lose against.

Hmm. Fmcs are tricky, not much chaos can come up with is effective against them. Summoning is a good call. I dont suppose allied daemons is an option? They can get more efficient warp charge from horrors than a sorceror. Also you then get a soul grinder, which is all round better than the defiler and even has a skyfire option.

Would not recommend attempting to summon with a sorceror, it will die quickly from perils.

The biggest issue I will have is I just got the codex and with working I will not have much time to read it before this game, I am just ok enough with the basic units with no upgrades and still really uneasy on the whole herald situation.

Though I am not sure if I should drop the Daemon Prince for another sorcerer. The goal then would be with one sorceror try and get a herald and with the second summon a unit of pink horrors and from there keep summoning and have the sorcerers as basically warp charge additions.

You should be summoning with your daemon prince, since he's a Daemon and can also get a spell familiar as well as being mobile enough to summon things in convinient places if he's got cursed earth running, meaning he's actually the best summoner in the game.

2 expensive HQ's at 1k is generally a no-no, though it's s bit different with a summon list. I still think you should drop the sorceror, though you're almost certainly going to lose your Daemon prince to vector strikes as soon as he gets more than a single FMC onto the board. I assume you don't have access to the crimson slaughter book? If so, you can make your sorc a daemon and still grab a spell familiar.

A helbrute will tarpit a unit of gaunts just as well as a defiler for 1/2 the points. Not sure what shooting your defiler is afraid of to warrant a dirge caster either?

Obliterators or Havoks with Autocannons behind your Quad gun is probably your best bet for AA. Str 7 vector strikes from a drake could be handy, and you could even drop a reasonable amount of his ground troops with your flamer.

I don't have the crimson slaughterer codex, but do another person who does have it that I could borrow, I assume it is like the CoF where there are a few relics, but no new models. If so may do that. The biggest reason I was going to bring the defiler is just based on the fact I just got one and wanted to use it.

I probably will not put the daemon prince in the air, probably keep on the ground, until completely necessary, so at least mitigate the FMC vector strike a little.

Though dropping the sorcerer only leaves me with 3+d6 warp charges first turn and if facing hive tyrant and tervigon that is the same warp charges, which will make summoning really difficult.

You gotta go big with daemon factory or go home.

How many ml3 sorc can you spam? Just use the champs you lready have as sorc.

2X10 cultist-100

Total 875 so 125 left over
Suggest adl+quad gun

Use remaining 25 pt to upgrade 10 cultist to 5 marines to man a quad gun.

My other suggestion is for you to buy 12 autocannon havocs from me and play this list. You still need 8 more as this list fields 5 teams carrying 4 ac each. They throw out 40 shots of s7 ap4 at the fmc. Also quad gun gives you 4 more twin linked.

Sorc-60
2X10 cultist-100

3X5 havocs, 4 ac-345

Cad 2

Sorc-60
2X10 cultist-100

2x5 havocs, 4 ac-230

Adl+quad gun-100

It may not be the level of charges, but would a 2 daemon prince lvl 3 nurgle work. Sit behind aegis, have 2+ cover and then just keep summoning, have cultists as troops and defiler to just harass. Maybe give 1 or both wings to fly around and try and do nurlgy things and things.

I get it, you dont want to buy anything...you want a list with what you currently have...good luck with that.

Sorc, ml3, sf-125

10 cultist-50
5 marines-75

ADL+Quad Gun-100

Allies Daemon

DP, ML3, flight what ever

What ever deamons troops you have but prefer pink horror for warp charges

Soul Grinder, phlem bombardment (convert your defiler into this soul grinder! it comes with flak cannon!)

I should have taken your advice Filch, tried bringing this list

HQ
Sorcerer lvl 3
SF, gift

Daemon Prince lvl 3
SF,Nurgle, Wings, Gift

Troops
Cultists x10

Marines x5
Rhino, Flamer

Defiler
Warp flame

Predator
Autocannon

Aegis w/ Quad gun

Game went until turn 5 and at that point I had a daemon prince with 1 wound left and an untouched predator.

My opponent brought

2 Flyrants each with 2 twin linked devourers and some flame template

Tervigon
30 gaunts

Hive Crone

Biggest issue I had was I made the Crone take 30+ jink saves and he failed 2.

I feel like an donkey-cave for telling i told you so.

Soul grinder is good but as anti air platform i feel it is a bit over priced. But still much better than defiler. It was the only easied revision for your list without major purchase. You could have proxied defiler as soulgrinder if he was cool with it.

I already sold my 2 defilers fast, i think they were converted to soulgrinders by the new owners.

Please check out Imperial Armor volume 13 : War machines of the lost and damned, for more anti air options such as hell blade and fire raptor gunship.

My 345 pts of 12 ac havocs are still available.
