Do I need the entire space marine codec if I'm just going to get one space marine tactical squad to ally with my IG? Could I just find the bit of the codex online, if I need it?

The only official source of space marine rules is from the space marine codex

thats not possible. you need an HQ as well, and they tend to get finicky when it comes to wargear etc. so yeah you need the codex.

You could get one of the many army list writer apps, they have the stat lines and weapons on them normally.
