How should I put this?... I'm an extremely indesicive person and I have some serious issues when it comes to picking color schemes for my minis. See, I have this Cryx army that i've been slowly working on for quite some time (it's my first Warmachine army), and before I started painting I spent a ludicrous amount of time looking up different color schemes, color theory and whatnot, added to that I wanted my army to look like a special snowflake for some reason.
Now I've come to a point where I'm strongly considering just stripping what i've painted and starting anew.

I chose to paint my Cryx in White, Silver and Blue, thinking it would turn out great. Now, some of them did turn out pretty good, but they're frustrating to paint this way. Even with a white primer as an undercoat the White takes so many dang layers to achieve a clean coverage, and even then it looks splotchy and weird. Somewhere along the way some grit got into the paint as well while painting the jacks, so that makes it look even worse, and the silver needs to be undercoated with black/grey because it doesn't cover well on white, and I can't get the blue glow to look right either.

I'm sorry if I come off as whiny, but I really just don't know what to do at this point... It's not a huge amount of models. Basically:

Battlegroup
10 Bane Thralls
Withershadow Combine
Witch Coven
Skarlock Thrall.

So what do you think I should do?

And for disscussion-value, how do you feel about the notion overall.

Recently stripped lots of old models to redo them.
It was time consuming and some effort to stay focused but ultimately it was theraputic, worthwhile and came off well.

If you have come to dislike the originals that much I say go for it.

First of all, these are your miniatures, you bought them and put time into painting them. So you need weigh the time you spent painting them and how much you like the paint job with the time you would spend to re paint them. Ultimatly, do what you want, but if you are having this doubt, chances are you don't like the colour scheme much, so redo it. It might take a while, but it's better to play with minis that you like than ones you don't.

As for what I feel about the whole repaint discussion, I don't feel it's bad at all, you need to play with minis you like. If you paint them once and don't like it, redo it if you can. Use that repaint to improve your painting and understanding of colours so you don't have to repaint again.

Also if you are going to repaint, you might as well do it now while your army is relatively small, as it would be much harder later on.

Hope that helps!

Strip it and start again. I have an Imperial Guard army that I have been working on for the last number of editions. I recently stripped the entire army and re-based them all as in all honesty my skills as a painter have improved drastically since I began. It can be a scary step but it is worth it in the long run.

You say that I am crazy. I say that you are right!

I strip test minis frequently to get a scheme I like, and to learn techniques. It's wlel worth doing for that. If you don't like the scheme of your army, yeah I'd probably recommend stripping it if you'll repaint it to something you prefer.

If you aren't hard hit for cash, I would just buy more models, and keep the old ones. It's always nice to go back years later and look at things you did, and appreciate how you've improved. Also, you can still *play* with your models that you're not really happy with, until you have a satisfactory replacement

Eventually, you'll find some **METAL** models that you really hate (painting or playing with). Just use those to strip down and test new paint schemes I say metal, because plastic models are much easier to break if you constantly strip them down.

Keep an electric toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol; it doesn't take much! If it's a metal model, you can always use stinky acetone, which is dead easy.

Because it's not working for you, at all, I'd strip them.

I would consider to tweak your color scheme from white & silver with blue to grey & iron with purple accent - Cryx isn't Eldar, so you probably shouldn't paint them that way.

In my case, I'm hip deep into camo Imperial Guard. It's just a boatload of painting ahead of me, but I'll be simplifying the pattern going forward.

Thanks for the input, people. I think I'll have to give it some more thought. Maybe buy a solo-model to experiment on before I decide.

Sometimes it's good to start over, and it feels cathartic to scrub away the old paint.
