hi,
Are the dwarfs being affected by the end times?

INSANE army lists still available!!!! Now being written in 8th edition format! I have Index Imperium 1, Index Imperium 2, Index Xenos 2, Codex Orks Codex Tyranids, Codex Blood Angels and Codex Space Marines!
PM me for an INSANE (100K+ points) if you desire.

Well Skaven are in the next one so I'd imagine Dwarfs will be mentioned, just have to wait and see because we don't know what's coming for sure. Speculation I've seen is they may be rolled in with the Empire/Bretonnia but I don't see it.

I imagine they will another couple of random holds, because a Dwarf Hold falling is GW's equivalent of the "Wolverine is down" effect, ie, whenever they need to show how much more dangerous than the average bad guy a particular baddie is, they have them destroy a Dwarf Hold, because Dwarfs are the toughest race on the planet. Or at least, they would be if not every random Joe Blow overran their holds every time the fancy takes them.

If the story rumors for End Times: Skaven are true, Ikit Claw is going to poison and nearly wipe out the slayer city. And Karaz-a-karak will be beseiged.

I hope the dwarves survive.

I'm almost certain they will. No ones been written out so far after all, not even Bretonnia, and Dwarfs haven't long since had their book out.

Most end times books have a Main Party and a secondary party in each book. For instance, Book 1 Undead Stuff, but also there was some empire stuff in there. Book 2 was all about chaos, but again, some empire thrown in. Book three was unique in that the Major and Minor players were elves.

The major party to Book IV is Skaven, and rumor has it from several sources that Dwarves are the minor player. So i'd expect to see some dwarf love coming soon (though don't be surprised if it's a handful of stuff, as i think they are the minor player in this book).

The rest of my post is completely conjecture, so i'll put it behind spoiler tags.

Spoiler:

Past that... no one is really sure what's going to happen to the stunties or the non-humans in general. Lots of rumors (though by no means confirmed, but with strong anecdotal and circumstancial evidence) point to a Compendium effect with armies, meaning "elves" will be a book, as will undead, and chaos (remains to be seen if they will still allow for mono armies, or if it will only be Legions / Host rules in 9th, no one is sure, and as much as there is some circumstancial evidence for compendium books coming with 9th, there's not a shred of evidence one way or the other for Mono Only vs. Legion only vs. Either. I think they'll let you do either, but i literally have nothing to back that up but my personal opinion).

I think it's likely that one of two things will happen with Dorfs. They will get "compendium'd" in with Empire and Brets, as that makes the most sense in terms of alliances, and you'll be able to do Mono-Dwarf, or an Alliance list, or they'll get folded into some sort of weird Non-Humans thing. Frankly i think its becoming less and less likely of that second one.

I think what's going to happen is that the dwarves are going to get their asses handed to them like every other Forces of Order army has thus far, and with Archaon's main host still on approach in Book IV, and then Empire / Brets / Dorfs / Host of the Eternity King (elves) are going to band up to knock it back and probably a capstone to all of this is going to be (the probably not-dead) Teclis showing back up in Book 5 to drive back the Ever Chosen. This cements the Compendium fluff justification for Empire / Brets / Dorfs. Battle will probably not conclude in Book V, as we've heard a bunch of rumors that End Times could continue past the release of 9th Ed (might be a move due to positive sales numbers), and if that's the case, i think Book 6 and maybe even 7 will be a "at the same time as" book 5 is going on limelight given to Orcs and Goblins, Lizards, and Ogres, before the whole thing gets wrapped up in a final book somehow.

I hope that's not how it goes down, as it's all a little cliche.

There's still a lot we haven't seen: nothing of lizards, nothing of Orcs and Goblins, nothing of Ogres (in terms of spotlight), there are several more mortarchs floating around we haven't met, we have no idea who got a couple of the winds of magic from Teclis' shenaniganery, etc etc., so i think there's some potential for End Times to go past Book 5, unless 5 was massive (bigger than Nagash. By reports, Thanquol is about as large as Glottkin and/or Khaine).

I heard that it would be Lizardmen not dwarfs in Skaven. Anyone else heard something like that?

I think they will both be putting in appearances, but Dwarves are probably going to end up with more Model / Rules love.

Both Dwarfs and Lizardmen get a good kicking setting up at least one of them for a full on squating.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

...you do realize what the Squats were supposed to be, right?

Karaz-a-karak is always under siege.

Honestly, I don't believe that any other major Hold would survive for much longer anyways- Dwarfs seem to be waning as a race that controls land, confined primarily to small pockets of control anyways. I feel that what's going to end up happening is they'll all have to retreat en-masse to the Everpeak and just hole up in there, maybe slowly expanding out from that point.

It used to be that they had basically been confined to their holds above ground, but had more or less reconnected all the surviving major holds via the Great Underway and were hence able to start reclaiming ground (like the new outpost at Karak Eight Peaks).

It's just that GW seems to have a thing for kicking the dwarfs to reinforce a point.
