Hey all

I recently finished Krom from Stormclaw and was hoping to get some opinions and constructive criticism.

This was my first attempt at NMM and, overall, I'm really pleased with how the gold turned out, but am always looking for suggestions on how to do it better in future.

Apologies for the poor pictures, but I hope you dig it all the same.

Thanks for looking.

Nice work! The choice of colours for the cape, skin and axe are unusual, but undoubtedly work with each other. Very good NMM for a first try too, certainly better that my early attempts.

Looks great, although his skin color is kind of unusual, but still a great paintjob.

Makes sense Mr. T would be a SW, he was afraid of flying after all.

Thanks for the comments everyone, much appreciated.

I have painted quite a few of Krom's finest with black skin tones. I still find it quite astounding that GWs models are almost entirely Caucasian and, it seems, most modelers also paint their minis this way.

With each new mini I try to do something new or develop an existing technique further. With this one NMM was the new thing, black skin tones were a way to develop the of painting faces.

I like it!

I paint my Space Marines with black skin as well, but I'm very new.

My only complaint is that the armor itself just looks...... bland? Not the right word but it looks like it's missing something. The rest looks really good

To be fair, there is a fluff reason for Marines to be white most of the time. The Melanchromic Organ actually makes their skin pale white in normal solar radiation, with the skin darkening as a response to higher levels of solar radiation. So while black marines are possible(Salamanders are actually all black due to a malfunction in their Melanchromic Organ), it'll be because their skin is responding to something that needs to give them extra protection.

What do you think it's missing? Thanks for the comments.

THe blends on the cape are crazy good.

If i have any criticisms at all is that the pallette is overall VERY light... i wish there was more than just the dark skin-tone anchoring all the bright, almost pastel colours ... because there's a very slight "wash out" effect with all the brightness going on. But its a nit-pick, honestly.

I mean, it's Dakka. I thought snide arguments from emotion were what we did here.
