I have the fellowship I will paint them up in the future. I don't plan on picking up much more lotr stuff except maybe a few characters I like the look of to paint.
However it would be nice to have the option to use the fellowship to fight in a small scenario against a band of mordor troops. What would people suggest in order to have a relatively balanced game.

You will need a lot to match the points. The fellowship comes in over 700 points

I don't have the rules so I hope this isn't a silly question but roughly how many orcs or Urukai would that be? Are we talking 20-30 30-50 or even higher again?

2 trolls, 50 orcs, a ring wraith, shaman, and a few captains.

Maybe not then. That's a fair bit more than I want to invest.

The fellowship is pricy points wise. Matching it requires quite a decent sized army. Its all characters...Gandalf is 170 by himself. That's a troll and ten orcs by itself.

If you take Sauron or a Balrog, you can cut that down a lot. Similar if you take a named character that is expensive points wise like Azog. The balrog would take up well over half the points budget of the Fellowship.

thats only if you want to match the points, and i dont think you want to do that,
perhaps lurtz and a box of uruk scouts, box of moria goblins, troll and a character or a nazgul, box of mordor orcs and a mordor troll, to match the points i think would unbalance the games you wanna play,

I agree-while it sounds like a good idea, points matching doesn't work well with the fellowship. You want a few tough models and then some weaker units in numbers behind them, that'll give you a good fight.

One idea if you don't want to spend much is to set up an 'endless wave' scenario. Deploy the Fellowship in the middle of the board, set an entry point or two, and each turn move on any available Orcs/Uruks/Trolls/whatever that aren't currently in play. Anything killed just comes back on, and you can set a kill limit, time limit or turn limit, or even have it so the Fellowship have to escape with X members off a certain points.
The other thing to bear in mind is that the Fellowship may be all heroes, but a lot of that is dead weight. The Hobbits will drop to a stiff breeze really, and Legolas, while killy, isn't much tougher. Boromir, Aragorn and Gimli will cut up orcs like there's no tomorrow, and Gandalf can be a nuisance, but they can't be everywhere. This is why scenarios where the Fellowship need to keep half their members alive can be a good leveller, as the Hobbits really do need protecting, so that's fluffy and makes the game fairer.

I once ran demo games at a convention where I just had some cardboard tiles from Dungeons and Dragons with the plastic scenery from the Moria box, representing Moria. And I ran the Fellowship through a bunch of scenarios using 24 Goblins (could easily have been twelve using Paradigms wave idea), a Cave Troll and a Goblin Captain (easily converted or distinguished with a paint job if you like). You could also mix Moria Goblins and Mordor Orcs, if you liked.
After surviving that gauntlet, they had to take on the Balrog. Depleted/wounded Fellowship vs a Balrog is a really tense, fair fight (though Gandalf is predictably the Balrog's worst nightmare due to his spells). If you were fighting the Balrog with a conventional force, you could just feed him insignificant models while going about your objective, but each member of the Fellowship is important.
If you already have the Fellowship you're not looking at TOO much outlay to do the goblins and troll part of that sort of scenario, and with victory conditions as suggested the Balrog fight could be pretty challenging if you wanted to just pick up Durin's Bane (Let's face it- every gamer should own a Balrog.)
