I'm tired of being able to ally my Marines and Daemons with Only limited Battle Brother benefits. I miss my old school Chaos mob of devoted maniacs, supported by the objects of their worship. I want to see what a Herald of Slaanesh does when leading a close combat squad of Slaaneshi Marines. I want my Sorceror or Dark Apostle to move surrounded by Daemonettes. Therefore I have been thinking about how to resolve the difficulty of Daemonic Instability as it seems to be the main obstacle to proper ally shenanigans.
Daemonic Alignment - Daemons can only join units that are composed entirely of models with the same 'Daemon of' or 'Mark of' alignment as themselves. Units of Daemons may only be joined by models with the same 'Daemon of' or 'Mark of' alignment as themselves.
Daemonic Instability - Remove the first sentence of this rule.
Add "If a unit contains a mix of models with and without the Daemonic Instability rule, then the unit follows the leadership rules for the Character with the highest Leadership value. Note that Non-Daemon models cannot benefit from the Reality Blinks result of a Daemonic Instability test, though the Daemon Character in their midst may. Be aware that many bonuses require ALL models in the unit to bear the appropriate special rule in order to function.
This represents Daemons following the lead of their master, following them when they flee, falling into disorder if their master panics etc. They do not suffer the usual Instability fate of their brethren, bound as they are by spells or obscene artefacts, unless their master is no longer the highest Leadership Character.
Alternatively, a squad of mortal soldiers may find their vital essences being drained to power the unholy being in their midst, though the dark fervour of their god's messenger drives them on through situations that may have otherwise broken them."
I figured this would allow some bonuses and remove others in a way the should remain balanced overall. Slowing down units, exposing Daemons to Ld tests, majority toughness wounding Marine characters, etc; should all mean that these mixed units don't cause more trouble than they should. Thoughts?
