Thank you guys for the explanation, greatly appreciated.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

I personally would love to see events 'Faction Pure', with perhaps a caveat for taking 1 'indy' ship, to include all the minor league ships with no full faction (species 8 something something something, ferengi, tholians, bajoran etc).

The total 'everything with everything' seems to result in some really broken things, from what I've read, especially with borg ships carrying cards from other factions and does favor the guy with 'the most toys'...

Noob question incoming - Is there some resource out there to find out the stats/upgrades/etc for the available ships? Totally new to the game and I'd like to start a Klingon fleet, but I don't want to buy stuff blindly...

A great addition to the Vulcan fleet. This pack adds some great choices, where the D'Kyr and Ti'Mur were a little lacking

Well, I ended up winning my OP Arena event with my Federation build. - Though there was some uncertainty about whether Captain Spock + Admiral Kirk counted as Captain Skill 6, or 8.

Fortunately the organisers went with 8, otherwise my entire strategy would have been blown apart, as Kirk would never have been able to become a 'Captain' to get beamed down as well, and the captains battles would have gone very differently, and, not in my favour, I imagine.

Being able to have Picard, Kirk, Janeway and Spock in the captains battle certainly did give me a massive handup, allowing me to win every single one without any casualties, even against some pretty dangerous other captain focussed builds.

However, the event itself was a little surprising. - There wasn't a single Borg player there and also Khan didn't turn up either.

All in all a good day though, so next question... Anyone got tips on how to do the next event, would it be Collective OP 1?

For OP1 I would suggest stacking upgrades. I went to 2 OP1s, both were mixed faftion. The first I had a 90 point Koraga and a 2nd 30 point ship. They didn't get their blind packs for that one. I won all 3 matches with that build. The 2nd one I went to I had a 90 point Ch'Tang and a B'Moth. In thatbone I won the 1st 2 games and lost the winners round to a stacked borg cube.

For tips don't be afraid to give up a round of shooting to draw the borg towards your opponent. If you can take the resistance action, do it. I saw a lot of games where people didn't bother with it and the borg ended up taking valuable upgrads. Or there were games were people didn't take much on there ships and one the captains were gone the borg lit them up.

I found taking one loaded 90 point ship very useful. I used the resistance to make sure I didn't loose upgrades I needed. In all 6 games the Borg Cube token never shot at my 90pt ship. Ships start going down fast when the cube throw 8 dice at them.

Ok, seriously, am I the only one who wants the Borg banned because of their cheesy movement dials? When the cube can sit there and outrun 90% of the ships in the game and take ships out with one combat step... I feel they're really broken...

No your not the only one. I keep hearing about more places banning them. I feel that they are like super heavies in 40K, fine for casual play but too unbalanced for tournaments. Lots of games ban things for tournaments. 40k and Fantasy usually bad FW, Magic has all kinds of restrictions, X-Wing doesn't allow Capital ships. So why shouldn't Attack Wing ban borg? You can't use DS9, borg are no different. They will only get worse when the scout cube comes out with another attack that you can't roll defense against. Plus a crew that can steal any upgrade through cloak/shields and is only 1 point more than O'Brian.

People keep telling me to get over it, I don't feel I should have to. When my ships keep getting one shotted by it.. I shouldn't be forced to abandon my faction because I refuse to buy Borg... No freaking way....

They are ridiculous. When the sphere first came out a friend of mine didn't believe me about how they could be abusive in mixed faction play. We played 100 points. I took down 2 loaded bio ships and never look damage. I was throwing 10-11 attack dice every turn. After that game he agreed with me.

I have a problem with a ship that can put out that much damaged every turn. Yes there are things like transphasic torpedoes and barrage of fire. However both of those are expensive discards and Barrage of fire requires 2 ships to take Aux tokens so you opponent knows where you are going to be the turn after.

Well, we don't allow mixed faction play at the OP events, I'm trying to get them banned based off of their ridiculous movement dials, but no one wants to listen... That cube stayed out of range of my ships with PSF until he just felt like moving toward them again, and blowing them to hell at the same time... This guy refuses to play anything but a stacked cube, and it's pissing me off!

I think Guild just got fanboy eyes when designing the borg. They don't really have a borg feel. The borg do not go backwards so I don't know why they have a reverse. Also the huge attack value doesn't really fit either. Its not that the borg have overwhelming weapons its that they adapt to your defenses. 4-5 would be appropriate, but not 6. It would have been more fitting for them to have a smaller attack value and an ACTION for adapting which whould either be reroll their attack dice or the opponents defense dice. Also judging by the upgrades that he has written for the borg, being cheaper and bettrer than other factions, plus he has never made an FAQ ruling against them I have to say Christopher Guild is designing like a FANBOY in heaven.

That is a tough place to be in. I usually play 3 OPs a month. One is mixed faction, but we don't do anything crazy and usually have a gentleman's agreement of no borg. The 2nd is faction pure fleets, and the 3rd is no holds bar anything goes. At that one the borg narrowly lost the Tholian Web, Won The Arena*, and threw a beat down at Colletive OP1.

*I will admit I was the D bag with the borg at the Arena, but I really wanted that 2nd Gorn ship. However I wasn't the D bag with a cube and a shpere, I had to climb over him for the Gorn.

Why? Why would Guild allow the Borg to be played at OP events if he knew they were so overpowered?

The Tholian Web was not entirely his fault, that OP kit was delayed a month by a China shipping issue. So it was originally intended to be played before the sphere release. Now for the Arena, that might be fanboy glasses. It's movment and regeneration made it reliable if you won or lost the captains battle.

In a system where dials and arcs are not factored into th points:

Why isn't hull armour unique?
Why did they need hull armour at all?
Why give them a weapon that doesn't allow defense dice?
Why allow a weapon like above that also destroys shields and gives Aux tokens?
Why do these weapons not need a target lock?
Why give them upgrade stealing cards that are better and cheaper than all the other factions?
How was all this actually play tested before going to the printer?

The only answer that makes sense is FANBOY at the helm.

Honestly, I feel like I want to quit playing this game...

I'm tired of losing all my damn ships to the borg in OP play, all because one cheesy damned player likes using Double hull armor, And because wizkids doesn't have the wherewithal to ban things themselves...

I have seen a few places now online ban borg from OPs. You should talk to the other players at you venue. If most of you agree, go to the TO about it. If he won't listen go over his head and go to the store owner. People have to pay $$ to play in these OPs, I think the majority of stores will do what the players want to keep the money flowing in. That is why there has been an increase in the number of stores that play faction pure OP. People got tired of Picard spheres. In my area there are 8 places to play within an hours drive 5 of them have moves to faction pure because the players wanted it. I think after the collective another is moving over the line.

One place I play mixed faction we have a gentleman's agreement of no borg, but the store would probably enforce it if we asked. A place some friends of mine play at is banning them because none of the regulars like them and they spend big $$ there, so the owner wants to keep them happy.

That's just the thing though, No one will listen to me. At all... The only hope I have at getting them banned would be to dominate OP events with them, not even giving anyone else a chance, and I don't have the ability to buy that many ships at once...

I have to say that it doesn't thrill, but that is ok. I am not a huge enterprise anyway. I was worried there would be something in the NX that was a must have, I am happy there isn't. Tucker is nice and so is the hull plating, the rest is kinda meh. I will probably pick one up but not right away. There is nomreal reason to get multiples unless you a huge Enterprise fan.

The only thing that irks me is that the feds get 2 admirals before Klingons & Romulans get 1 very disappointing there. Would it have been a catastrophe if the borg and Vulcans where pushed back and they releases the Scimitar & Chang's BoP instead. I don't think so, but no we have to wait until October.

Anyone know where I can score 2 Borg Spheres, 2 Tac Cubes, and 2 Soongs for less than Retail?

Miniature market usually has attack wing stuff for 30% below retail.

That sucks. Keep checking though. I have noticed they restock pretty fast. The only thin I see they are consistently out of is Tie Interceptors for XW, but everyone is out of those.

From reports, the Gencon cloaked ships and DS9 cards special releases seems to have devolved into farce.

And the horrifically overpriced ships are now appearing on ebay.

I believe the problem stemmed from the fact that special badges got people in before the general public and there was no limit on the number people could buy. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I heard it went down.

It's worse than that too, a user on Facebook was injured and had his watch broken when he was thrown into a door in the Wizkids line...

Plastic is cheap, people are not... It's not worth it... It seems that a lot of people at Gen con are the worst people in the gaming community..

Yeah I have been reading about that. At my local store just about everyone is great, but some of the people online (BGG especially) make the community very hostile. I think the whole exclusiveness to the OP prizes and now the Con only cards is fueling this. Some folks I know warned me about this kind of stuff from WK when I first started. Judging by how quick the were to handle things like the extra minefield token in the Gal Gathong I thought things had changed since my friends delt with them. However this whole mess is not good PR.

I am not going to loose my head or rage quite, because I see them putting something in the retail DS9. I never got a GenKhan and I will live with out these. I do worry about it turning people off to the game and the good part of the community dropping off.

I heard from another user that after he got the DS9 cards, the organizers of the tournaments there told him he'd have to wait til November for the Retail release to use them... That kind of confirms the cards are going to be released in November...

Mostly, on my phone.

Also, they're giving them to folk buying the new DS9 (which has Dominion symbol and a 45 degree movement arc, btw).
