I'm trying to put together a bit army as my first marine army. Question is where is the best/most cost effect way of picking up special weapon options like grav-guns, meltas, and Plasma guns for use with my bikers.

Probably a Sternguard kit. $50 for five models, but three copies of all the specials.

Way too many for a 5 man sqaud, 2 combi, and one regular + storm bolter, and scoped designs for regular

While I love the SG kit, and it is packed full of extras, this is not true. It has one of each of the specials, and two of each combis, not 3 each of the specials.

If you just want the guns, GW still sells packs of meltas and plasmas. They are resin and 5 for $10, so not the best.

For anything vaguely economical, you should probably look at 3rd party manufacturers for a counts-as, or bitz sites. Or trade with the guys down at the FLGS. If not you are looking at a $35-$50 kit just for a couple of guns.

The only place to get grav guns is the newer kits: Sternguard and tactical squads (including the new BA one I think)

Melta/flamer/plasma are more common, and can be found on the older kits, including places like the command squad.
