Has there ever been a codex that permitted Techmarines to wear Terminator armor? There was a time long before GW's current policy of "no model, no rules," but I don't remember it ever being an option. Which is strange, because what could possibly be more badass than a Techmarine in custom TDA with a full servo-harness? Is there a fluff reason behind this or just a missed opportunity by GW?

Most TDA is rare, like 100 or fewer sets in a chapter. In order to interface with their servo arms, alterations would likely have to be made to the armor permanently. Probably don't want to damage a set of TDA when Artificer armor, which is significantly less rare, works just as well.

In the 4th edition codex you could equip Techmarines with terminator armor.
Somehow they lost that ability.
Seeing as Techmarines can technically be chapter masters.

Is there a model for it? No? Then it won't be an option (although I suppose one day GW could come up with a model for it, but that would "require" a new book).
Honestly though, that's probably the biggest reason. Goes in the same bucket as "Why can't Archons ride jetbikes?" GW can't make extra profit off of it.

Or the entire space marine 1st company wearing artificer armor and having feel no pain XD

Yeah, in the original DE codex it was an option for the Archons. Obviously that book is super old now, but there really wasn't ever a good reason it got removed.

The guy breaking it would be the guy fixing it. Besides, I doubt the Master of the Forge gets questioned about what equipment he chooses to wear
MotF: I think I'll wear the TDA to tonight's Astartes/Sororitas mixer.
Scout Johnson: «Consults dog-earred copy of the space marine handbook» Hmm, nope. This here says you have to wear the artificer with last week's gravy stains, sir.
MotF: ... «Calmy walks over to a nearby console and taps a few runes»
MotF: Shame those last implants didn't properly take, Johnson. However, it appears we need a new thrall to keep Privvy 429 sparkling. See you after Tuesday Taco Night.
Scout Johnson: Wait, wha...
MotF: «Smiles broadly»
Scout Johnson: «Protests as servitors drag him off to be mind-wiped and refitted with a dual power-plunger implants»

I'll have to dig out my old 4th Edition codex and give it a look again. If true, that's pretty cool.

I think I mentioned that. My point was that there was a time in the not-so-distant past that GW actually cared about the hobby, and the opportunity to create a unique character in iconic termie armor would be very cool.

I'll have to dig out my old 4th Edition codex and give it a look again. If true, that's pretty cool. I might be mis-remembering. But I might need to look it up again. I remember you could give them terminator honors and anyone in the entire book with terminator armor. In fact that means you could have a scout sergeant with artificer armor or tactical squad sarge with terminator. Infact it was easier to buy a terminator squad and equip every terminator with bionics and basically have an unkillable unit. As the limits were placed when you have terminator honors and character armory. Checked: Yes he can. He does not lose his servo harness either. he is only replacing his artificer armor.

You can take an entire squad of Veterans in the 4th ed codex and equip them all with adamntium mantles. I mean they would cost 700 points for the whole squad. But you would get basically an unkillable squad.
Shenanigans will ensue.

Indeed. It was funny how you could give a Veteran squad Terminator armor, and they'd have identical stats, but would cost significantly more. Although you had the option to mix and match gear with them.

I think you could do that with a terminator squad infact you could drop the teriminator armor on them and achieve the same effect XD.
Or you have a scout squad with a terminator sarge and or a tactical squad with a terminator with a stormshield and a lightning claw IN EVERY SQUAD.
Infact it was far better to just beef up your tactical squads with either an apothecary upgrade or a Terminator. That way you have a troop choice that has a terminator in it with a +3 invulnerable save and +2 armor save.
In objective based games they were neigh unstoppable. Even chaos had trouble dealing with that.
Infact I ran that type of army for a while until 5th edition.
The amount of cheese you could pull in a 4th edition codex is fantastic.
You could take apothecaries in every squad, and equip them with terminator armor, or have your whole army have true grit and infiltration and all you had to do was not take bikes or land speeders.
GW I feel like has forgotten this game should be fun. And allow you to have the freedom to do crazy things like that. I mean you have to sacrifice alot in order to do that.

No that's not how it works.
It just replaces TDA if you have it. You don't have to have it to take it. Otherwise it would say ''models in TDA only''

Yeah, I knew someone for whom that was their main HQ through all of 4th ed. I never actually played a game with him once the 5th ed SM codex dropped, but I would easily allowed him to continue to field it. Same with the current CSM warpsmith on a bike.
It seems more like a typo than a purposeful choice.

The aura is 5++, The sigil is 4++. So it is the Sigil and the MoT that gives it a 2+/3++
