Using an Assault on Black Reach Nob and bits from the Gretchin and Nobz sprues from Stormclaw, I created myself a Weirdboy.

Seamlessly kitbashed, but I'm not getting a distinct 'weirdboy' vibe - he could just as easily, if not more easily, be a beefy runtherd. Might want to consider adding a few more 'kooky gubbins' (that's a technical term, of course ) to really drive the point home.

Yeah, I agree. It looks a bit too much like a Nob with armor and a Runtheard stuff. I do like the skulls on the staff though!! I think a smaller torso, less armor (like those shoulderpads) and more weird-gubbinz would be good.

It's very nicely done, and the staff is my favorite bit. For a bit more weirdness... do you think he could use some sort of hat?

Yeah, the grabba stick makes it look like a runtherd. I would use this guy as a runtherd and start from scratch on building your own weirdboy. Start with a regular boy, and you can use Orks from 40K or Orcs or Savage Orcs from WFB as a base. Use a nob head, preferably one that is shouting and dremel or drill out the top of the skull until you can fit a Tyranid adrenal gland on the top of the skull. Get an arm using a staff or a spear weapon and add some orky know-wotz to it. I would get an open hand for the other side and pin an ork skull or ork fist above it and use green stuff to sculpt some sort of energy around the pin and item in the hand, leaving the front of the item visible.

give him a wizard hat!
Its a nice conversion works pretty well, i think i agree it could be taken a bit like a runtherd, but i'd certainly let you play it as a weirdboy
I built one from a standard boy, then just covered him in 'magical trinkets' as hes basically a magical magpie who just collects all things magical and then runs around meltingface.
you dont quite need to go to the madness of bits i added to him (he has so many trinkets on his back), but I think if you gave your weirdboy a weirdboy base - mines supposed to represent warpspawn seeping out around him as he and his boyz make 'da jump'.

If you change the pose to put the staff held more upright, then use a head with an open mouth & put an open hand held up to it like he has a headache (after all, I dunno about current ork fluff, but used to be the minderz basically pointed him at the enemy as he erupted warp energy from his eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and arse). Plus their heads used to explode on a bad roll.

I was planning on getting some greenstuff to sculpt him a coat/cloak, but I think I'll do this as well.

I think it's the pose that's a bit less weirdboy, a bit more slightly odd nob.
weirdboys always look best if they're pushing the limits of gravity - floating, jumping, held down by taught chains by grots.
I gave mine a low flying base:
instantly recognizable as being a bit weird. I think a repositioning of the legs and a more dynamic pose will work wonders. that, or some grot keepers.
