£90 off ebay, looks superbly painted. What a deal. Can't wait for it to arrive.
At the same time, I've decided to do a renegades list as my new army. I've also won a bid for 8 spawn and am currently in the lead for 4 more. This will be enough for the 4 units of 3 OS spawn a Mutant Overlord with cov of tzeentch will give me access to. Since im taking the cov of tzeentch the GBS will have to be a LoW for my CSM force. Now the idea is to use lots of small OS units to offset the 700pt price tag of the GBS. I only have 20 cultists and will need 30 more ccw cultists so I can run 20 mutants, 20 ccw cultists and use my 10 autogun cultists to make a command squad and man 6 laser destroyer rapiers. The cultists champion representing my arch demagogue.
So what I need to still buy is 6 rapiers, 3 wyverns and 30 ccw cultists for this list.
My BA sicaran is still grey, so I can use it for chaos and im planning on converting my DC dreads to blood slaughterers.

The list I'm planning on using is as follows:

Chaos Lord (with a spawn unit)
MoK, jugger, AoBF, MBs

10 cultists

10 cultists

Sicaran

Blood slaughterer (Deep strike)

Blood slaughterer (Deep strike)

Greater Brass Scorpion

Arch Demagogue
Cov of T, Mutant Overlord
4 Disciples

10 mutants

10 mutants

3 spawn

3 spawn

3 spawn

3 spawn

3 laser destroyer rapiers
Milita training

3 laser destroyer rapiers
Militia training

3.wyverns

2k pts

Hopefully with the blood slaughterers and GBS around, my spawn will avoid high st firepower. The rapiers, sicaran and wyverns to provide adequate backline support.
Absolutely no AA (apart from sicaran and GBS snap shots).

So with this in mind, how should I use my new gleaming GBS?
Is the list ok to go with it? I have a decent amount of CSM to choose from to switch things around.
Or should I leave it to games of 2.5k+? At 3k I would maybe take 3 hellblades for AA (would need to invest in these also), maybe 3 squads of 3 combi-melta termis (already have), and 3 giant spawn or spined beasts (again - investment). Sentinals with HFs to fill remaining points or maybe nurgle bikers.

Bear in mind this is going to be a new army which will require extensive investment. So far only the spawn are invested in. The GBS is for my CSM - should I just ignore the renegades when taking it and go full CSM as I wont have a full renegade force for a while yet (30 cultists, 3 wyverns and 6 rapiers isn't cheap, and the last 2 are extremely rare on ebay)?

What would you do?

The Brass Scorpion is a bully. It excels against anything smaller than it is, but it's pretty bad at going toe-to-toe with superheavies and gargantuan creatures. Remember that Cursed Earth is an extremely valuable tool, protect the Scorpion's rear like your life depends on it (the way it explodes your life probably does), then rampage forward and tear up most anything in your path.

It's a very point-and-click superheavy, it doesn't rely on complicated tactics or support combos so much as it runs up and hits things. As with any superheavy clearing enemy AT is a high priority, ensure you've got the artillery to snipe down long-ranged AT and the screening to keep short-ranged AT away. Pick fights you can win; if it isn't against a superheavy you probably can.

I personally run one in a psyker-heavy Daemons/CSM list that lets me reliably have two or three Cursed Earth castings up at once, those can be invaluable in keeping the Scorpion alive long enough to slaughter everything.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

Be really careful about exposing its rear armour, it's ridiculously fragile. In your list you have a lot of fast units (spawn), they should be able to do this well. Look out for outflankers.

Remember that you can fire at differnt targets being a Super Heavy, so keep target priority in mind with regards to the differing ranges of your weapons.

Thank you.
So maybe taking a sorc instead of the lord would be a plan for the chance of cursed earth? I have enough bubble wrap with mutants and cultists to prevent T1 melta pods so I can protect the rear like you suggest if facing these.
Should I stay away from knights with their I4 D weapons, or do you find it's Hps and 5++ enough? I'll definitely stay away from all other superheavy walkers and Garagntuans like you say.
With its extra 2 stomp attacks I'm aware that raw wise I can stomp units quite far away that are not engaged in the combat, do you find your opponents let this fly, or is there some opposition to this? Stomping units 18"+ away does feel like cheating somewhat.
What point lists do you tend to take it in?

Thing is, I wasn't planning on getting one, at £144 from forgeworld, plus the fact I would butcher the paint job, it never even crossed my mind. But when I saw a greatly painted one with the highest bid at £70 I thought I'd put a cheeky £90 bid on, so imagine my delighted surprise when it won! It's just the effort of fitting it into my plans now!

Yeh im hoping the spawn will synergise well with it. I'll send them out to the flanks to stop those shots hitting side armour, as even serpents can quickly glance down av13. Cheers.

Well you start by taking Fateweaver and something with the grimoire (a prince or GUO is a good choice for this). Give that bad boy a 3++ (potentially 2++ from cursed earth) and rush forward. Unless the enemy has D weapons they are in for a bad time.

The scorpion itself will die to a stiff breeze up the ass but will shrug off most things outside apoc to its front. Make sure to use the destructive stomp to its fullest extent by stomping nearby targets (the thing is giant so there should be lots of things nearby).

Remember that this bad boy can do a turn 1 charge. The 3D6 assault can be amazing. Last time I used it I charge into a mob of 30 ork boys. Took out almost all of them thanks to all the stomps.

I was charged by his warboss and friends, but wiped the floor with them, then used the insane stomping to flip some trucks. Always remember that you can stomp things that are out of combat. With the extra amount, and what, 3 inch range of each stomp? You can easily stomp over to other combats, or other nearby units.

Depending on the new necron book, I might start a traitor army using the IA13 book. How do you like it so far?

If you use renegades and heretics it fits nicely within 1000ts haha

The idea of getting it a 3++ or even a 2++ is incredibly tempting, however, as my next army I've decided to go with renegades not deamons, so won't have access to it. I will have access to belakor and invisibility however ;-)!
The extra stomps do sound absolutely crazy good!
Tbf I haven't actually used IA:13 in a game yet, as up until now, the only unit (apart from maybe dreads) inside it that I have is a sicaran (which I've used many a time now for my BA). Having read through it though, it is absolutely amazing. I'll sum up what I think about it with a few bullet points:

-Legacies aren't quite as good as the imperial ones in IA:2, far more situation dependent.
-Some amazing stand out units that are avaliable from one to three of the chaos armies, sicaran, fireraptor, bloodslaughterers, hellblade, rapiers to name a few.
-Greater option of artillery (rapier loadouts) for CSM over SM
-An fantastic third chaos army with renegades. Games only source of bs2 snapfire (afaik), that can be almost armywide, 55pts for 3 OS spawn, 55pts for a wyvern, 55pts for an earthshaker cannon, 70pts for 3! Bs3 laser destroyers, 20pts for a hf sentinal, 3pts for basic troops, far more customisation on squads than even IG, every different option you give your HQ as covenants or type greatly affect the army style... just an amazing army.
-As per usual for IA books, an exceptionally beautiful and fluff filled book.
