The dark behind the eyes.

Basically the title - does anyone use Desperate Allies or Come the Apocalypse Allies?

If so, what do you ally together and why?

Also, is the 'One eye open' rule a problem/concern?

I use cullexus and vindicare assassins with my Chaos Marines. Fluff-wise, I just consider them to just be some form of chaos super-soldiers who are similar in capability as Imperial assassins. Rules-wise, they mesh well - the cullexus especially is usually infiltrated up-field from the rest of my forces, and so never invokes the 12" deployment bubble or One Eye Open.

I did Tauranids once. It was okay but nothing great and the 'one eye open' rule didn't affect me at all.

I took them together because I thought that Tauranids sounded cool and I wanted to see if it would work.

I'm currently running demons with a vindicare.. it's tricky at deployment but manageable..

Done Eldar with daemons once. That outcome was fun.

I make bad decisions and think they are good.

Tried IG/CSM right after 7th came out to see if I could keep using it as my renegade army (this was long before IA:13 of course). The deployment was Hammer & Anvil, which really limited my deployment. That game did not go very well for me.

Used 2000 pts of Tau with 2000 pts of Tyranids in last year's Adepticon Team Tourney.

One Eye Open doesn't exist there though.

Otherwise it played fantastic. Hard to kill Broadsides and Riptides when you need to kill Carnifexes and 60+ gants.

We placed in the top 3rd.

I've been using DaemoNids lately, and I like it a lot. The 12" no deploy zone is a bit tricky sometimes, but the Tyranid detachment (2 Flyrants, Venomthrope, 3 DS'ing Mucolids) have such a small foot print that it is usually not too hard to work around. With the mobility of each army it's pretty easy to work around the One Eye Open rule, but there have been a very select few times where I felt like I HAD to move a flyrant within 6" of a Daemon unit. Also have to be wary of SitW when casting summonings and other high WC powers.

I know that sounds like a lot to worry about, but I really like the army a lot. It's fun to play and has shown to have potential so far.

I used TyranKnights to great effect at the onset of 7th edition. I never once had the "One eye open" rule bother me. I simply deployed separately and then used the great speed on my FMCs and Knight to keep them separate. I found that it was quite powerful combo, and the best thing for Nids in a no FW/pre Leviathan setting. I took it to the ATC, and with their matchup system I did quite well, taking best Nids and 13th overall. Is it needed for Nids? Not anymore, but it's still pretty nice. I haven't run it lately as Leviathan dropped and Tyrannocytes with it, which gives some fun new options for Nids that I wanted to try out. I'm not sure which one I like the most so far, as both are quite good.

Lots of Come The Apocalypse armies did very well at Caledonian Uprising this year. There was even a Grey Knights Demons army (lots of warp charge for summoning I guess!)

I'm planning to build myself a Subjugator and just run it with the Imperial Knight rules as an ally to my regular Chaos forces. I figure the danger and distance represents the unpredictable fury of the Knight lashing out at its comrades.

Unfortunately not true. Even with an unbound army, allies matrix holds true.

Im tempted to run a servo skull inquisitor with my chaos forces.

Rules wise its a meagre 34 pts to lock down the enemys deployment. He's useless otherwise and a kill point liability. Gets past the deployment issue by always being in reserve.
Fluff wise he's a renegade of course. And in a fit of inspiration I have even managed to magic up a model overnight.

Does anyone else think the lone inquisitor is worth it?

Been thinking of using IG with CSM and maybe a vindicare assassin in larger games. Probably will hold the IG in reserve to avoid the mess that is the 12" deployment rule that comes with come the apocalypse.

Gods? There are no gods. Merely existences, obstacles to overcome.

I think it is -- against some armies, it's a waste of 34 points. For those few armies who want to be scouting up in your grill to get close (I'm looking at you, marines on bikes!), it's worth far more than its 34 points, and has outright won me a few games.

For the greater glory of the Zoat Empire!

Done it in team games, it's a lot of fun. As a general army, the only thing I'd do is a Knight or an Assassin.

I run a cult of pleasure, eldar and dark eldar, and slaanesh.
"Normal" play around here is only 2 sources, but the list is themed enough that nobody seems to mind.

SGTPozy What sort of list did you bring? I have been wanting to bring a suite of battlesuits from farsights enclave to couple with some tyranid CC beats like genestealers, mawloc, etc.

Did you ever have a problem trying to juggle synapse ranges with the "one eye open" rule?

I use FE, I have one of each Assassin for allies, and a second Culexus on order. Ideally, they will never get in range of one another to worry about 'One Eye Open', it covers many of my army's weaknesses, and allows me something to use my warp charges on.

I've used the conclave of the burning one a few times with my space wolves to add a bit off close combat power to the list and because I like the tought of a radical inquisitor releasing a stolen C'tan to fight an even worse enemy like a greater daemon. On the table the 12" deployment bubble hasn't mattered much since most of my wolves are deep striking so very few models deploy on the table and even if it is crowded one of the crypteks has the veil of darkness which allows me to deploy in a corner before deep striking the shard into a more advantageous position

My armies:
