Hello everyone, I have been away from Fantasy for awhile now but thanks to the rumors of 9th edition coming up I am getting excited to play the game once again! I have decided to go with Skaven as my army of choice, but not just any Skaven army. I want to do a Clan Skryre themed army with lots of gizmos and gadgets and of course, lots of shooting as that is what they are all about! However it has been so long since I have played I cannot remember what to add or what makes a nasty Shooty Clan Skryre army list and could use some help. I know you need the following units for sure in this army:

-Warp Lightning Cannons
-Doomwheels
-Stormfiends (*It says they are Clan Moulder but im sorry, Rat Ogres with guns to me screams Skryre and I could model them in a way to make them look much more Skryre-eeee!)
-Lots of Clan Rats with Weapons Teams
-Storm Banner?

Other then that I am not sure what else to add or how to build my Shooty Skryre themed Skaven army so anyone who knows how to put said army together and the tactics needed to run said army I would love to hear it. Thanks for posting guys!

19th Krieg Siege Army 7500pts.
40k/HH Night Lords 5000pts.
Orks Waaaghmacht Spearhead 2500pts.

Well apparently 9th will change up quite a bit of what units you can take/are actually in the game. Recommendations generally include "don't buy, wait and see". But if you're looking to get an 8th ed. army together until then:

Step 1. Warp Lightning Cannon
Step 2. Warp Lightning Cannon

Jezzails and Poisoned Wind Globadiers are both Skyre units, although they're really hit or miss (especially at BS3! *badum tish*).

Globadiers are a cheap way to get Poisoned Wind Mortars onto the field though, since a minimum sized unit is only 50 points.

Leadership will tend to be an issue with MSU skaven. I'd recommend a warlord (or even Queek) in a Stormvermin unit with a Banner of Discipline. That gets your base leadership to 8 (or 9 with Queek), which is pretty good for skaven. (Might be 7/8 with queek, can't remember entirely).

Good luck. It's a bit of an odd playstyle for Skaven due to their LD issues and the general point cost of weapon teams (way too high for such a fragile thing).

Globadiers (see avataar) single file in between 40-strong slave blocks.

And rat darts. Keeping enemies away from your stuff long enough for them to blow themselves to smithereens will take a bunch of rat darts.

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the particulate.

Never thought of the single file Globadiers before I like that! Is taking Plan rat units with weapon teams advised as well? Was thinking to 2-4 all with mortars. I know about the rat darts and slaves are also important, how many bricks of 40 to 50 should I take?

Mortars are nice against big blocks, but don't really do much to monstrous infantry/cav. Warp fire throwers scare my expensive T4 W3 infantry.

My Skryre build would typically run 10 weapon teams.
Usually 2 warpfire throwers, 4 mortars and 4 ratling guns.
4 to 7 of the parent units would be storm vermin.
With that, you can squeeze in some gutter-runners with poison slings, warp lightning cannons and maybe a doom wheel or two.
Character lite, grey seer and BSB, engineer with rocket.

I really want to like Jezzails, but typically all they did was panic off, and force panic checks on everything nearby. Same problem with Globadiers. I don't mind that they die, I mind that they scare off my own guys.

So. I got a game with this list in. First game in at least 3-4 months.

Hmmm... That is a bonus for weapon teams then.

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.

And if going this route, the Storm Banner is a must-take IMO.

That's the last thing I want in my shooty army. On a 4+ it gimps my shooting too.

D'oh!

I forgot about the latest FAQ that dropped the "non-magical shooting only" part. My bad.

Matt's correct; no more Storm Banner for Skryre.
