Hi,
Every time I get a GW set, and it says 'This box contains X models, which can be assembled in a variety of different ways\of which can be assembled as X or X' (X meaning what is in the box or how many models are in the box), I begin to expect (or half expect) that there is more models in the box than they say there is. But it never happens. Is expecting more models in a box than they say there is normal? Does this happen to you? This has happened for the last 6-10 months or so.
Thanks,
KaptinBadrukk

Why do you expect more models than they say..?

I don't understand, so you get a box that says there are 10 models in it, and you expect there to be 12 models in it?

No I have never expected more than advertised.

No it's not normal. It's a childish expectation.

Is this expectation because of the Ork Boyz box?

i fully expect only the number listed and understand that your paying for the options your not going to use. I would much prefer them to be packaged seperately and get more models of the option I want but hey, we can wish in one and and crap in the other and see which fills up first. lol

This is why, when someone wants to give me a gift of 40k stuff, i always just ask for store credit "so I can pick it out myself after checking what I already have". I dont want the person to see just how expensive the stuff is. They will think they are getting me more than they are and I'm fine with that.

In some cases, there are extra models, you just need to add a few extra bits.

For example, the devastator box comes with 6 legs, and 8 heavy weapons, but only 5 torsos. The assault marine box has 5 extra torsos/backpacks (for building them on foot). So 5 Devs + 5 Assaults = 11 marines.

Just shake your bits box periodically, sometimes extra marines fall out!

Tbf, I used to have a fair few metal bodies (no arms but with heads) of DC marines a few years ago. Then I bought three DC boxed sets. It had enough arms and more to help fix the metal bodies up. So for me, the boxes in a sense gave me 30 models not 15.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
But that only worked because I already had the bodies.

Yeah there will be xtra bits to make more models if you buy another box. But the point is that one box, unto itself, will not allow you to make more models than is listed.

The Loota kit is great. 5 legs, 4 deff guns, 4 burnas, and some mek tools. If you get another box of boyz in there you can build yourself a burna squad without getting another box of them, AND you can still get some more boyz to build.

Yep. I don't expect extra models, but extra bits are well within expectations.

And sometimes the bits are the driving force behind getting the box. The new sternguard box, 5 marines for $50 is quite the kick in the head. But not only do you get 5 marines (which frankly are fancy enough to stand in for chapter masters, honor guard, or captains) but enough spare guns, shoulderpads, and other bits and bobs, to trick out all the sergeants in a reasonably sized army. Or you can cut the box with a tactical squad (or spares from your bits box) and get a full 10 man squad of guys fancy enough to field as veterans.

I've done this (with sets like the devestaters) for just that reason and put it out as a suggestion for newer players as a way to save $. Buddy of mine is doing that with his orks/burna boyz as soon as they come in.

It depends on the limiting factor in the box. Usually it's legs or torsos; if you can find extra legs or torsos somewhere else you should be able to improvise extra models.

Legs mostly.
I have excsess bodies, only thing I may run low on is pauldrans and back packs.

I recently acquired a lucky find of 10 marine bodies

Yep, that's about right. I've read that Necron players pretty much never have to buy an official HQ model, because a Litchguard box contains all the bitz you could ever want to convert fancy looking Necrons.
