As the Contemptor was a reboot of the old style marine Dread, this new piece of bad assery is a rethink of a near forgotten old pal..

It's actually an update of one of the old 'peanut' dreads.

They have taken the name, but the bow shaped chestplate and weapon options are more like the ED-209 imho

I think FW is trying to pull any of the old stuff from GW's vaults for concepts. And good on them, those were my favorite days of GW!
They're just having to rework concepts that don't work in the newer miniatures. The ED-209's of the past simply don't translate well into FW minis without significant tweaking. I would put the Deredeo in the realm of "inspired by previous dreadnought designs" but definitely not in the category of "remake" like the Contemptor (which was much easier to do).

Still looks like crap, homage or no.
Don't get me wrong, I love battletech, but this Rifleman/Madcat (Nee Timberwolf) bastard hybrid doesn't look like it belongs in 40k, so it fails on 2 fronts.
At least the rules are decent, but even if my local allowed forgeworld, I wouldn't field one if you gave it to me due to how ugly it is.

Right.
As someone who loves Dreadnoughts, I may soon make my first FW order ever because of this bad boy...

Apart from the chest mounted twin linked weapons, the pair of twin linked autocannons, the missile launchers and the protruding hull section. Admittedly they aren't twins, but there is a family resemblance there, as much as there is between both Contemptor versions old and modern.

The legs are completely different, the weapons are set out differently, the whole chest looks different.
I mean, they're both blue...

You do know that the sc dreads have had weapon swaps too.
The only thing slightly similar is the weapon loadout and colour schemes, which aren't original.

The ' protruding hull section ' on the Space Crusade dread is its head. The Deredeo just had a protruding chest.
The regular SC dread also only had two weapons instead of four (although the Mission Dreadnought expansion had a dread with two more mounts) and didn't come with twin autocannons... The cannons in that pic are guard guns that have been added late.
The weapons mount on back tabs instead of to the shoulders, the legs are reverse jointed, there's no real torso, the head is part of the hull, the styling of the armour is completely different... Stylistically, the only real link is that they both stick out to the front.

FW should have went with reverse legs. Would have been a bit more of a homage to the original.

The original didn't have reverse legs.
Again, this isn't a remake of the Space Crusade dreadnought. It's an update of a Rogue Trader dreadnought class.
