So, I've been looking around for some more games (having played warhammer 40k and fantasy, and warmahordes) to play and paint, and infinity caught my eye. the PanOceania seems neat, but I was wondering, any tips for new players? I have the d20s I need (yay tabletop RPGs!) anything else?

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

You seem to have chosen a faction to start with, good start.

Pick models you like - and go from there.
There's no real "useless" models in the game (there ARE models you may not be able to use, though - depending on whether you play sectorial or "vanilla".

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Terrain.

Lots of terrain.

Use your 40k stuff if you don't mind the skulls/ buy the odd Mototronica scenery pack/ print out and build some boxes and crates...

Or buy a truck load of HDF laser-cut stuff if you've got a fair bit of cash lying around!

Not just terrain though, unlike 40k you want lots of scatter terrain as well so that when you do get caught out in the open those ARO are not so easy to take you down with.

Great thread! I'm new to Infinity too, so I hope you don't mind me asking a question here....

From everything I've read so far, it seems like Sectorials are clearly superior to a vanilla force, due to the inclusion of link teams. Is this true? Can you have a competitive vanilla force, or do Sectorials really convey as much of an advantage that it seems like they do (IE: Once you really start playing and are comfortable with the rules, if you want to be competitive, you should be using a sectorial force). Kind of curious to see what the general opinion is on this.

Depends, some people regard Sectorials as better than vanilla due to link teams while some people prefers the greater variety and adaptability that vanilla offers, In my opinion everything is pretty balanced.

So, I've made quite a bit of terrain: walls, buildings, and the like, read through the rules, and have the PanO starter kit coming in, and I was wondering now: what and how should I generaly build my army? the most I can figure is investing in a trauma doc, but beyond that I am drawing blanks, so again, any tips or general help?

There's no real one way to build your list. The general guidelines are - make sure you have a Lieutenant, try to get as close to 10 regular orders as you can, as close to 6 SWC as you can (though this isn't essential, I usually aim for at least half used), and if you're playing objectives, specialists to complete them.

This isn't a game where you win at list building. You win on the table.

If you plan to play ITS, you'll need more specialists. Auxilia, Pathfinders (REM), Konstantinos, various hackers (Father Knight, Gabriele, Fusilier and so on).

Decide how you want to play your army. Single (10 models) or double (14 - 20 models) combat group. Generally once you've decided on this, certain choices will be denied or become more apparent. If that's too much, simply go through the range and decide on miniatures that have caught your eye, afterwards simply go through inner iteration (and computation) until you have reached 10 models. I prefer to play around 15 models, it gives me enough space to include denial elements (Sierra, various mine carrying profiles, Auxilia) and I'm not playing in a community where people are typically making 16 - 20 model lists. Those can give you trouble, depending on the faction.

You'll want to avoid taking too many order intensive units. Some units are simply more intensive than others, generally for us, that means anything above 20 points. Unless taking someone who is more or less simply there for control (Bagh Mari, Nisse, Hexa with MSR, Sierra). Order economy and efficiency is important aspect in this game and well used orders will easily snowball your game.
