Hey everyone. Decided to pick up Infinity (I typically play 40k, Warmachine, and Xwing), and I've decided upon Haqqislam as my faction since I think their models look the best.
I know there's a ton of these "new to the game" threads, but since I've already got a specific faction, I thought I'd throw out the models I've bought (still on their way by mail) and see if this is a good start.
I'll be honest, I picked most of the models based on aesthetics and what I think I'd like to paint most.
Also, can any explain how bounty hunters work? I got one of the LE ones with my rulebook purchase and it looks badass.
Any input as to what to pick up next is appreciated!

3x Ghulam Infantry - Rifle, Light Shotgun
1x Hassassin Lasiqs - Viral Rifle + Light Shotgun
1x Hassassin Lasiqs - Viral Sniper
1x Hassassin Fidays - Boarding Shotgun
1x Al Hawwa' Unit - Sniper
1x Djanbazan - Sniper
1x Jannisaries - HMG

Thanks in advance!

You can use a Authorized BH in an Vanilla Human faction and any sectorial that includes them (currently only Imperial Service)

3 lines, a sniper, a pseudo sniper, an assassin, a skirmisher, a camo hunter and a heavy, sounds good, you can get some solid lists out of it.

On Bounty Hunters, they are "vanilla" light infantry units but before the game starts they roll on a random table and get a piece of equipment (some of them are pretty good and some are situational), they are loads of fun thought.

Thanks for the replies!

Any units that I should look to add?

Also, a rules question - are the basing requirements for models strict (specifically regading height)? Meaning, should I stick to the supplied bases or can I use custom bases (I have a bunch of dragon forge bases around)?

Nuclear Messiah: where did you get those acrylic bases (from your P+M blog)? I'd like to do something like that; Clear acrylic bases with the Haqqislam faction icon would look awesome.

Right here http://www.litko.net/categories/Miniature-Bases-%26-Bottoms/Clear-Acrylic-Bases/

AS far the requirements, they are very loose since we have silhouettes now for line of sight, 3mm is the proper size, but I use the 1.5mm ones now ( I really need to update my blog lol)

You can also use the ABH as a proxy for almost anything in Haqq because it looks like nothing else in Haqq. As far as your list goes, it looks fine, but... (always one of those, eh?) I would consider getting the starter box of 3 ghulam, 1 Janissary, I naffatun LFT and 1 Hunzakut instead of just the 3 ghulam blister-- but it sounds like you've already ordered. Look into getting the support box at some point.

No rules about height. Just use the silhouettes as NM noted. One of the reasons for the silhouettes was to allow the sculptors and player more freedom with the minis.

Depends on your playstyle. Haqqislam has a lot of options, and remember this is Infinity. There's really no 'bad' units, just units that don't fit your playstyle. For every person I see that says that a unit is bad, I see another pop up and say it works well for them. It's all about finding your playstyle and experimenting. Haqqislam is the light infantry faction, but don't let that make you think we can't pull tricks other factions do. We might not do them as well, but we can do them.

if you like faster, fragile units, you've got remotes, the Maghariba Guard (this doesn't fit 'fragile', but it's certainly fast), Kum riders (and Kasym and the twins), Tarik 'Captain Islam' Mansuri, even Ghazi Muttawi'ah thanks to their Impetuous order. If you're more into durability, you've got Djanbazan, Odalisques, a few different types of heavy infantry, and lots of doctors to keep your guys on their feet. Like sneaky camouflaged units? Haqqislam doesn't have as many, but you've got your TO camo Tuaregs, camo Infiltrator Al Hawwa (which you already have), holo projector equipped Hafza and Bashi Bazouks and Impersonating Fidays. Just want to pack some heavy firepower? Haqqislam have two Lieutenant options that add an additional SWC (AP Rifle Tarik Mansuri and Kasym mutha-fething Beg), letting you bring more big guns. We even have some good hacking options now that BTS isn't tied to the actual hacking roll, due to our high WIP - Ragik and Barid hackers are popular.

So, if you give us an idea of your preferred playstyle, we can point you to some units you might like using.

Thanks for all the advice, Loki, and thanks for the link for the bases, NukeMessiah.

If I were going to go with a play style, I'd say something along the lines of elite units with some heavy support. Scalpel and Sledgehammer, if you will.
Unfortunately, not having played a game yet at my FLGS, and only watched batreps/tutorials, I'm kind of only going on aesthetics to guide my decisions. It's the reason I picked Haqqi. They have some really badass looking units, and very few derpy looking ones. And, IMO, they have the best looking models of humans compared to others.

Rulebook arrived in the mail today, so I'll be giving it a deep dive over the next few days. Yes, I know it's free online, but I prefer the physical.

Edit: I really like the Mercenary Anaconda TAG Squad. This can be used in a Haqqi army, correct? Since they're mercenaries.

Haqqislam have a whole sub group of 'scalpel' type units called the Hassassin. They're specialised units that tend to do one thing well.

For example, Lasiqs. These guys are armed with rifles or sniper rifles with Viral ammo. Viral ammo is particularly nasty - you take two saves instead of one per hit, against your BTS instead of your ARM (most units have low or no BTS, and even if they have BTS, they're still rolling twice), and any wound passes you immediately to Dead instead of Unconscious.

Then there's Fidays. These guys use the skill Impersonation, that makes them appear as a token that's quite hard to reveal, and lets them deploy anywhere on the table, but it's difficult deploying in the enemies deployment zone. These guys are there to wander un-challenged to their target and murder them in plain sight. Then probably die.

Or if you'd rather something different, the Ragik is an Aerial Deployment unit that can be equipped with a Spitfire or as a Hacker, letting you drop into the middle of combat and do some serious damage. They're also Dogged, which lets them keep trucking if they're KO'd by an incoming shot.

There's more to Hassassin, so it's probably good to have a look at the units available.

On the flipside, Haqqislam has some good, if fairly basic, heavy hitters, like Azra'il, Jannisaries, Asawira, and even their TAG, the Maghariba Guard. Haqqislams big gun units don't tend to be as interesting as other factions, but we get them at a decent price and if you're just looking to put a well armoured heavy machinegun on the table, they're just what you need.

The Anaconda can't be used by Haqqislam in ITS (official tournaments) as it's not in any of our army lists. The closest we have is Scarface in the Qapu Khalki army list. But being a mercenary, you're allowed to take an Anaconda in non-ITS games. Just let your opponent know before hand.

Thanks, Loki!
A lot of good stuff in there.

I went ahead and ordered an Anaconda TAG group, and if I use it, will be in friendly games. Either way, I can use the TAG pilot figure as a Haqqi model since it would look right as a proxy.
I also picked up the support pack (Doc, Engineer, bots).

Again, thanks for the input, and it's nice to be able to ask questions to a responsive group.

Edit: So, viral ammunition. Read the wiki, and it's somewhat unclear to me. You mentioned viral ammunition forces the model hit to take two saves against it's BTS. So I read that as if it makes a successful BTS roll, the model has to roll again (and possibly fail), and if it fails, it straight up dies, and doesn't go unconscious (for 1W models, anyway). Thats pretty nasty. Glad I picked some of these dudes up. I'm also tinkering around with Infinity Army at home, and having some fun with lists. Thankfully, it's blocked on my computer at work, haha.

Hey all.
Ordered some new minis for my Haqqi army:

Saladin
Asawira - AP Rifle
Asawira - Spitfire

Thoughts on these dudes?

Still working my head around the rules, and have yet to actually get a game in.
Painting up models as well; just finished my Authorized Bounty Hunter (will post soon). Seems like he'll be a fun unit to kick around if I get good booty rolls.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I keep wanting to get around to painting up all of the Bounty Hunters. Then, whichever option I get on the role, I can then use the miniature that is most appropriate to that (so, whether its a heavier armour, or sniper rifle etc.)

I quite like the idea of Saladin, his Strategos skill lets you deploy two miniatures after your opponent which can be potentially game winning. Being able to give the lieutenant order to another miniature is also extremely useful. Only downside is that it paints a big fat target for your opponent over who your lieutenant is, and an obvious assassination target, although again you don't have to use Saladin as your lieutenant and so could lay a nice little trap..

Asawira are a very durable, close-quarters unit. Regeneration and 2W means that they are not easy to finish off, and you don't want to get close to them with their nanopulsar and Martial arts skill. I think quite useful to use on a choke point where you know the enemy is going to come, and you need some durability (although they are certainly not cheap in points).
