Idk if it's just me, but there are some unusual things that make me tear up. Some are not as strange as others, but we're all capable of experiencing strong emotions. Here's a few:
The Gettysburg Address
The end of Rocky II
The Man of Steel teaser (the one with Russell Crowe voice-over)
The Battle Hymn of the Republic
The new Star Wars teaser
That scene from the movie Ratatouille where the food critic guy has a flashback to when he was a kid after eating the ratatouille
The song Across the Universe by The Beatles
Whenever I see an elderly person walking by themselves on the streets because I feel like no one cares for them.
When Katsumoto dies at the end of The Last Samurai
This quote: "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -Alan Bennett
Whenever my friends (or large groups of people in general) all sing along to Hey Jude by The Beatles
What about you guys? Is there anything that gets the waterworks going? Or anything that makes you remotely sad?

I had a toothache from a broken tooth for four days through the weekend. Thats sure made me want to cry.
I also get pretty weepy every August 21. Thats Invention of Fire Day. After that we put paid to those hyenadons didn't we I tell you what.
The Boy called me last night out of the blue just to cackle. I got some dust in my eye right after that.

-"Wait a minute.....who is that Frazz is talking to in the gallery? Hmmm something is going on here.....Oh.... it seems there is some dispute over video taping of some sort......Frazz is really upset now..........wait a minute......whats he go there.......is it? Can it be?....Frazz has just unleashed his hidden weiner dog from his mini bag, while quoting shakespeares "Let slip the dogs the war!!" GG
-"Don't mind Frazzled. He's just Dakka's crazy old dude locked in the attic. He's harmless. Mostly."

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
Excerpt from "Seeress of Kell", Book Five of The Malloreon series by David Eddings.
"You need not fear us, unless you are a dark heart, a vile one who preys on the innocent; I promise, you can’t hide forever in the empty darkness, for we will hunt you down like the animals you are, and pull you into the very bowels of hell." Iron - Within Temptation
Maybe he/she actually experienced it through relatives?
Yes because putting two words together, adds so much depth to the conversation. With no context clues what else am I suppose to draw from that?
Today is also the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which falls on the day that Auschwitz was liberated.
I was able to visit Dachau in 2008 and even though it was the middle of August and hot and humid, the moment I walked through the gate I was freezing and felt weighted down by the sheer amount of sadness and evil that seems to still be present there.
However people may take the original comment, and at the risk of a thread hijack, it is worth to remember the Holocaust today.

Huh, today is that day.
I knew some people while I worked at a therapeutic horse riding facility.
From whom are unforgiven we bring the mercy of war.
Not gonna lie. I get goosebumps and misty eyed in Star Wars riiiiight at the point when Darth Vader gets target lock on Luke, and you hear the music "DUN DUN! DUN DUN! DUN!" and then ...
... pew pew pew!....
"WHAT!?"
"Raaaaawwwrrawrrawr"
"You're all clear kid, now let's blow this thing and go home!"
Gets me every time. I have goose bumps just writing it.
Ditto on the same part, particuarly the music, when Han finally gets the shield down, :

Told you they'd do it!
My kid has this old school movie that is an even older school book about 2 dogs and a cat that get separated from their owners. At one point it appears the older dog is dead, and has sacrificed himself against a wild animal so the cat and younger dog can get away. When the older dog comes limping over the horizon, a bit bloodied, and battered, but alive.... jesus h christ, lets just say to avoid the ridicule of my girlfriend that's magically the moment every goddamn time that i have to get up and use the bathroom.
Not much really gets me misty, but animal gak. Yep. Tugs at my heart strings. That and original, non-cheesy, triumph in the face of overwhelming adversity without delving into the absurd too.

Haight, you must mean Homeward Bound. That one and Milo and Otis- both can pull manly tears from anyone.
I think just because I was utterly unprepared for it, Nic Cage got me in the Croods when he admitted he was just a hunk of muscle and threw his family to safety. Up until then it had been such a ridiculous movie!

English doesn't borrow from other languages. It follows them down dark alleyways and mugs them for loose grammar.
This music video (not for the music... so if you dont like the band, mute it and watch):
The scene in Rudy, when its just before Rudy's final possible game, and the players find out he's not on the roster, and they each, one by one put their jerseys on the coach's desk and say basically that their jersey is for Rudy.
A lot of scenes in Saving Private Ryan... and more recent, Fury did the same for me as well.
In a much less serious note... the end credits for Star Wars: Episode 3 due to the knowledge that after 3 films, Jar Jar STILL isn't dead
The part in A Few Good Men when Demi Moore's character is arguing with Kevin Pollaks character. He says "Why do you defend them so much?" and she says "Because they stand on a wall, and they say 'nothings going to hurt you tonight, not on my watch".
Gets me every time.
Oh, and just about any movie where a dog dies. I LOVE dogs.

"Holy Sh*&, you've opened my eyes and changed my mind about this topic, thanks Dakka OT!"
So does the concept of me spending money to watch a movie with him in it.
I got some dust in my eye during my wedding, though.
On the whole, my eyes getting irritated makes them attempt to self-lubricate - but as I suffer from "dry eyes" it's just a sign to me that I'm about to suffer corneal damage and MUST put some gel lubricant drops in lest I go blind.
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
Saying goodbye to one of my dogs everytime I go back to uni. He's 16 now, probably won't last another year, everytime I leave I think this'll be the last time I see him.

The next poster is right, this is Homeward Bound. There are two copies of it as well, where the dogs' ages are reversed. I believe in one version the older dog doesn't survive. I think, in the newer one, the old dog is a golden retriever and the younger one is...crap, can't remember. Has kind of a pug nose, is white, around the same size as the GR...it's not a pit bull, is it? Maybe. Idk. Google said American Bulldog.
edit: turns out the older dog lives in both versions. Great! And I agree, it's a touching movie. I haven't seen it in forever. I might have to go track down a copy now.

Thats hard. I had to do that weekly for TBone, and my parents.

Oh god, I remember that movie. Chalk that up as another movie that makes me cry
Yeah, HB is pretty much up there at the top of the best live action Disney movies. The best? Well, that would be a matter of opinion. But it's in the top 5 for sure.

I visited Dachau in July of 1998.
I cried quite a few times during my visit. I too felt an immediate heaviness to the air and it is one of those things that I'll carry with me for the rest of my life.
I'll never go back nor visit another one again, once was enough.
