Hey mates. I am currently in the process of starting my Drop Pod Army, and running them out of the Sentinels of Terra Book, I am emphasizing one of there greatest assets by taking a lot of Tac Squads to benefit there -Close Range Bolter Drill to full effect as much as possible. As it stands, I already plan to run Tac Squads, Dreadnoughts, and a Fire Raptor, however from there I am still trying to debate what would be an effective choice to run with the rest of the army. As it stands, I am leaning towards Pedro Kantor, as he is a solid choice for a Chapter Master, however as I am not a huge fan of Sternguard as they can't use there special ammunition with the IF Chapter Tactic rules, would I be better off running a regular Chapter Master or Lysander. Would prefer not to spend a lot of points on HQ's if it can be avoided. The Sternguard are a favorite Choice in a lot of Drop Pod lists, however I wasn't planning on taking any for the reasons above, as well as the fact that they are extremely expensive point wise for what they do. Plan to field Dreadnoughts kitted out for for both Anti-Infantry and Anti-Tank w/Multi-Meltas and Hvy. Flamers.

However some people mentioned that Devastator Centurions with Imperial Fists are an amazing choice, especially in SOT as they can be taken in both Heavy and Elite Slots. But only problem I have with them is that they cannot be taken in a Drop Pod. But would it still be a viable option in a Drop Pod list? Besides that, only other thing I could do is take Devastators in Drop Pods, as I could start them on the table and have the Drop Pods come in empty, or even Combat Squad them so the 5x w/ Bolters come down in the Drop Pod while the Heavy Weapon Guys do there stuff. Imperial Fist Elites and Heavy's have the Tank Hunter Special Rule, so I would like to try and find a way to utilize that with other units baring the Dreadnoughts and the Fire Raptor, who gets it due to being a Heavy Choice.

Anyways, just trying to get some feedback on a number of units that I could take in a Drop Pod Army to go along with my Tac Squads, particularly with my HQ and my Heavy Choices baring the Fire Raptor. Appreciate any help that you guys can give me, especially those with experience with Drop Pod Armies.

You can take Grav Centurions in Fast Attack Space Wolf Pods.

The special ammo is quite frankly better for bolters than rerolling 1s to hit.

That said Tactical Marines can do just fine in a Drop Pod, but BA Tac Marines (which have heavy flamers in the heavy weapon slot) and Grey Hunters (which have two specials instead of a special and a heavy) are better at it.

Sternguard in drop pods can be pretty nasty with all of their upgrades.

Blood angels tactical squads can run a melta, heavy flamer, and combi melta. I like to drop pod them then combat squad out the 4x bolters+heavy flamer. Pop the vehicle with the melta, then flame the occupants.

Alternatively, blood angel assault marines can take 2x melta/flamers and the Sgt. can take 2x melta/flamer pistols with the "free" drop pod.

Sternguard are great, even without chapter tactics.

5 man assault squads (paired flamers) are a good way to boost your pod count, and add a little anti-infantry fire to your list.

Command Squads I have found are good. If you have a chaplain or a captain you can get one of these.

Command squad w/ 4 meltaguns in a drop pod is like 175 pts. Good sacrifice unit for blowing something up.

I have also enjoyed dropping in a Dreadnaught w/ a TL HF and a HF for laying waste on infantry sitting on objectives.

I just got an ironclad and am going to see how well it performs with two HFs.

In the Sentinels of Terra Book, they have the Close Bolter Drill, which means they get to reroll all misses to hit with all Bolter Weaponry at half range, which includes Heavy Bolters, Storm Bolters, BP, etc. So there Bolter Drill would be a bit more effective in a Drop Pod list compared to the Regular Codex's Imperial Fists.

Have considered taking a Command Squad with my HQ, however as I am leaning towards Pedro Kantor to be my HQ due to him being cheap and having some solid Stats, I would take him in a Command Squad kitted out with an Apothecary, with the other 4x Kitted out with either Grav Guns or Combi-Gravs to make them an Elite-Infantry, Monster Killing squad. Would this be a good idea or would I be better off running someone else as my HQ with a different Command Squad?

Obviously, if I take Pedro, Sternguard are a must as he makes them scoring, and while they are a solid unit, I jut have been hesitant with them due to them being so expensive point-wise. That being said, if I do take them, would it be effective to run, small 5x man units with 5x Combi-Meltas in Drop Pods or should I go to the full 10x man squads and combat squad them? Haven't looked at them much so advice would be appreciated.

Biggest question mark I currently have is the Heavy Support options for the Drop Pod list. Many people have said that taking Dev. Squads w/Lascannons and Drop Pods is a good choice, as I could start them on the table with the empty Drop Pods out of the way to allow more troops to come down Turn 1. But, I could also take Dev. Centurions and start them out on the Table Turn 1 so they could be shooting things right off the bat. Have some options but barring the Fire Raptor, I am not sure which is a good way to go.

I don't play Space Marines, but I consider one pod of Sternguard, and one pod of Melta/Grav to be standard. Toss in a couple of Tac Sqds and you're 90% done. If you want a table presence you could pop a couple of tanks, or Centurians down and do just fine.

Never tried it but 3 AM spec weapons squads all armed with demo charges all dropping and putting out 9 very devestating large blasts for a reasonable price have to put the spanner in a lot of peoples works.

Having fielded the demo-assassins many times in the past, they rarely find themselves doing the damage you'd hope they would.

If you're chucking allies in there, though, Sisters Dominion are an excellent choice with five Ignores Cover BS4 meltaguns for about 100 points. Since they're drop-podding in, it doesn't really matter that one of them's a combi-melta and Ignores Cover is once per game.

First thing that comes to mind is Legion support squads with either plasma, melta or even flamers. But I am guessing you meant standard marines.Sternguard come to mind as do terminators(I don't know if loyalists get that option anymore) all with combi-plas/melta depending on their job.

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!
