Just curious, if you had to pick a "favorite" terminator unit, what would it be? I know this can largely depend on what you're up against (a melee only unit loses to a flyrant for example), while standard terminators will get wrecked by AP2, especially if we're talking higher initiative. So really, if you had to pick one to take on a randomly selected unit what would it be? Or even, what would you pick for fluff reasons?

If you care to, give your explanation as well. Points value, effectiveness versus a certain unit, the rules they carry, some good combination of units etc.

Also, this is not the place to argue whether or not terminators are good or not, as there are plenty of other posts for that.

As for my choice, I love deathwing knights. A lot of fancy rules, higher T and WS, Deathwing Assault, can take the relic, and smite mode on the maces.

Finally, let me know if I missed anything. I'm not familiar with every chapter so don't know what special ones they get.

Personally, it's a tie between Deathwing Knights and GK Paladins.

On Smite mode, DW Knights can basically smoke any single target you choose, and I really like that reliability of knowing that the one thing you want dead will absolutely, certainly and without a doubt be a steaming crater by the end of this turn. After that, they are still decent against non-marines, and can take a lot of punishment when shieldwalled up.

Paladins are the opposite; their damage output isn't all that special vs other Termies, but they are tough as hell to put down if you play them right, so take a heck of a lot of firepower away from everything else. The Psycannon is nice too.

You missed the best answer: CSM.

Terminators, but also have combi-plasma/meltas. And can take +1I and FNP, or +1T and fear, or have a 4++ with both a shooting weapon and a melee weapon, and can start people on fire. Or reroll charge range, and have +1A, while still carrying a combi-weapon.

The paladin +1W and psycannon is pretty cool, but they look one-dimensional compared to CSM.

What would you like me to add? Just "Chaos", or all of the different marks for them?

Actually yeah, going to have to agree with Chaos. Power Weapons are a huge bonus over Powerfists for the versatility. Makes a very good bully unit when they're all Slanneshi'd up.

But, Blood Angels are a pretty much must have for me. Squad Lorenzo from Space Hulk is just a good looking miniature, and while a lot of the others have molding errors (Crux Terminatus wasn't finished...) they are still good looking guys. Half the reason I got into Blood Angels at all.

Hammer and sheild, make a very powerful close assukt unit that can grind almost any enemy to paste.

Hmm. The BA in me cries, but the DA in me jumps with joy, gotta go DW knights for the pure awesome. In order
DW knights-GK paladins-BA clawinators- DW then all the rest mesh together for me.

I remember my old second edition Termies and just loved the standard Tactical with assault cannon. Gotta give them my vote.

Wolf Guard, because they are so versatile.

Deathwing Knights. Nothing like power maces to the face, especially if I'm hunting some Fallen

Phoenix Terminators. Nothing quite like 30 S5, AP2, I6 attacks on the charge.

Wolf guard, because I like making very varied models, and they have a huge armoury to choose from.

Wow, a lot more varied than I expected. I was expecting it to be heavily deathwing and GK, with very few choosing the standard space marine varieties.

Deathwing Knights ftw! I love their smite maces (although in a tournament game they somehow managed to fail to kill an Eldar Wraithknight ), and they can MURDER anything smaller than MEQ. And they have the special You Cannot Hide rule to pick out and squish that jerk with the special weapon. They're just plain awesome.

Gorgons. After that, Phoenix. Oh well.
