I built a large Kroot model to count as a Wraithknight in my Eldar/Dark Eldar list that is comprised of Kroot models after the Kroot Mercenary list fell into disrepair. The howdah on the back has two Kroot gunners that would count as the shoulder-mounted weapons, while the beak is the glaive. I use the bounding leap of a chicken as an excuse for jump pack movement and the 'mystical war paint' on the skin as a scattershield. I left my lighting bulbs and photo setup when I moved, but once I get it back up and running I'll take some closer shots of different parts of the model.

Ha, I love it! What did you use to make the bulk of it? Is it all scratch built? Great job!

That thing looks seriously angry about something!

Very cool idea!

Very nice, Oaka. I remember seeing this mini when it was still a WIP and it's nice to finally see the finished product!

I'm actually also interested in how you made this. It reminds me of years ago when I tried to start my own Kroot army, but lacked the funds to actually build more than one squad and a shaper.

Very creative! Reminds me of something from Nausicaa or some other Ghibli movie. I like it! I have a feeling some people might be a little funny about it counting as a wraithknight, but if I had it across the table from me I'd be very happy!

Really cool idea and outcome. All the models are very well painted as well.

Sweet mother of Jeebus, am I ever glad I clicked the link to this thread! "Counts-as" at its finest. Is that based on some kind of dodo bird model?

Thank you for the kind words, this was the original model, but I was never able to figure out where it came from.

I put up the different WIP stages in my Kroot of the Dark Talon modelling blog, those are actual hedgehog quills and the model is quite sharp on top!

Fortunately, my army isn't competitive in the slightest, so no one has a problem with the difference in dimensions. I usually go to tournaments to get knocked down to the bottom table after the first couple games, so I can enjoy my last few games and have a chance at Best Painted. I'd have to run 3-4 of these things to have a competitive army, and it took me a year to build this one!

I think the best part about it is how you made a fairly goofy model pretty badass and scary. That actually looks like a colossal xeno terror bird that would make even a Space Marine gak their power armor.

As for count as problems, anyone who would seriously bring up a qualm with such a cool model is That Guy, anyways. I'd be honored and delighted to play against such a great model and army.

By the way, what's the status on this army's future since Forge World discontinued their Kroot stuff? I really want to see more! You don't see a lot of Kroot armies. Which is sad, because they're one of the coolest parts of Tau fluff, IMHO.

P.S. Have you maybe thought about adding some tribal script onto the straps over the Knosis' body? It might break up the plainness of the straps and add some nice contrast.
